Chloe encourages E.J. to talk to Sami and Nicole, assuring him that the sooner he arrives there, the sooner he’ll understand. “Understand what?” he asks before Chloe rushes out.
Sami’s Place
The showdown continues between Sami and Nicole as Sami angrily points out that Rafe has DNA evidence, and Nicole isn’t calling the shots anymore. Nicole vows to never let Sami take Sydney from her. “She is not your child!” asserts Sami. “Yes she is!” counters Nicole, who insists that Sydney needs and loves her, not Sami. “Because you stole her from me!” shouts Sami. The ladies continue to scream at the top of their lungs before Nicole picks up on object and begins to threaten Sami. Nicole drops it when Rafe walks in with Sydney. Sami cries tears of joy upon seeing her daughter. A distressed Nicole tells Rafe to give her Sydney. “She’s not yours, Nicole. She’s Sami’s,” states Rafe as he walks right past her. Sami holds her daughter and is overcome with happiness, while Nicole’s heart sinks. “She’s mine. She’s mine!” weeps Nicole. Rafe tells her it’s all over and he’s called the police. Nicole continues to sob upon losing Sydney. She grabs her purse and rushes out, then runs right into E.J., who seems concerned and asks her what’s going on.
E.J. touches Nicole’s face and asks her what’s going on. Rafe encourages Nicole to go ahead and tell E.J. “Or would you rather Sami do it? Maybe the cops could fill him in?” he suggests. A crestfallen Nicole rushes off, and E.J. follows her.
Back inside, Sami sits with Sydney and wonders why E.J. showed up. Rafe doesn’t know, but recalls how E.J. bolted after Nicole. Sydney babbles and plays with her stuffed animal as Sami holds her close, happy to have her baby back.
Sami recalls that whenever she was with Sydney before, it always felt so special. She embraces Sydney, and Rafe admits that the situation makes him feel closer to Grace. Sydney continues to babble and smile, raising her hands in the air. An emotional Sami credits Rafe for bringing Sydney back in her arms, believing Sydney would’ve otherwise been lost to her forever.
Rafe marvels how beautiful Sydney is as Sami holds her. Sami apologizes for doubting Rafe, admitting that she should’ve trusted him. Rafe tells her to stop being hard on herself. Sydney yawns and holds her stuffed animal. Sami recalls how Rafe didn’t stop and kept going on his leads. Rafe reflects on Grace and how she reminds him of Sami. “I love you Sami,” he professes. “I love you both so much,” she expresses. Rafe soon answers the phone to an officer, then tells Sami they should go.
On the Pier
E.J. stops Nicole and demands for her to tell him what’s going on. She sobs and falls to the ground, bellowing how she’s being punished and she’s lost everything she’s loved. E.J. touches her face and asks what is rightfully his. “Your daughter,” she quivers, as she puts her arm around him.
Nicole continues to cling to E.J., who embraces her and reminds her that she passed off an illegally adopted child as his. “But, I didn’t,” stammers Nicole. E.J. suddenly pulls away and yells at her not to lie. “I’m not lying!” she insists. She blurts out that she united him with the daughter that Sami was never going to let him keep. “I took Sami’s daughter, and I gave her to you, E.J., because I love you and I wanted you to have what was yours,” she reveals. E.J. reminds her that Grace is dead. Nicole quivers that Grace isn’t the child he had with Sami, but Sydney is. E.J. shakes his head in confusion. A jaded Nicole informs him that Sydney is his and Sami’s daughter, but E.J. isn’t buying it. “Sami gave birth at the clinic. I was only trying to......,” she tearfully insists. E.J. furiously demands for her to tell him what happened.
E.J. grabs her coat and reiterates his demand for her to tell him what happened. Nicole recounts how she found out Sami was pregnant, then she learned Sami’s whereabouts from Chloe. She quivers how something snapped in her, admitting that she was angry and jealous and wanted to confront Sami. Nicole continues to reveal that she went to the Convent of the Holy Cross and overheard Sami say that she would never let him know the baby was his. So, she set it up for Sami to give birth at the clinic and managed to convince Sister Theresa that it was the perfect place. A delusional Nicole believes she got lucky, since it was supposedly meant to be. She reveals that with Dr. Baker’s help, she switched babies. An incredulous E.J. wonders how she could even take that risk. Nicole admits that it was risky and difficult, but knew it would all be worth it in the end, since he would have his child. A desperate Nicole insists that she did it for him. E.J. touches her face and vows that she will pay for what she will done.
E.J. angrily tosses his wedding ring into the river as sirens are heard in the background. He grabs Nicole and demands to know where his daughter is, but she continues to sob. Nicole demands for him to let go of her, then yells that Sydney is with Sami. “The same Samantha who was always going to keep you from your child, and never let you have anything to do with her! The same Sami who will always wanna be with Rafe, and not you!” she cries. She sobs how she could’ve been the best mother. The cops arrive and arrest a distraught Nicole while E.J. painfully watches. Rafe and Sami arrive with Sydney, and E.J. approaches his daughter as Nicole continues to sob away.
Hope and Ciara
At the Kiriakis mansion, Hope and Ciara color together before Ciara declares that she wants to go home. Hope assures her that she can see Daddy soon. Ciara insists that she wants to stay at the house and wonders why they can’t stay with Daddy. Hope tries to assure Ciara that they still all love each other very much, then embraces Ciara.
