One More Day

By , About.com Guide

At the pub, Sami isn’t exactly jumping for joy that Stefano retrieved an annulment document for her. EJ implores her to sign it, stating that it will be as if she and Lucas were never married in the eyes of the church. Stefano notes how the bishop was willing to put a seal on the annulment so neither Sami nor Lucas would have to be present. Sami realizes that Stefano pulled some strings. Lucas takes the annulment paper and believes it’s fake and affirms to EJ that Sami’s taken. “Get your own girl!” he strongly suggests. Stefano implores them to sign the papers and be done with it. Lucas refuses to end their marriage just for some old grudge. Stefano claims that Elvis and Samantha are the only ones who can satisfy the terms to ending the vendetta. “Now Elvis is willing to make the sacrifice. Now it’s up to Samantha,” states Stefano. Sami blasts him for his speech on sacrifices.

Lucas and Sami step aside to talk and end up rehashing the same old topic. He implores her to talk to her family and wait 24 hours before making her decision. Stefano remarks what a beautiful DiMera she’ll make, then leaves. EJ butts into the Robertses’ discussion and claims Sami’s already made up her mind. Lucas reiterates his demand for EJ to stay out of it. He tries to convince Sami that she doesn’t have to sign anything, since Andre’s barely alive and Stefano doesn’t have much longer to live.

Sami sits down as EJ reminds her how powerful Stefano’s empire is. “One phone call, and this vendetta’s back on,” threatens EJ as he pounds on the table. Lucas chuckles and tells Sami not to listen to him. EJ asks Sami if she wants to lie awake at night wondering why Will hasn’t made it back by curfew. Lucas implores EJ to go ahead and call Stefano and inform him that the Bradys aren’t cooperating. EJ warns Lucas and Sami that Stefano’s a very dangerous man. Lucas calls EJ on his intimidation tactics. EJ insists that Stefano’s not about to turn his back on the promise he made to Santo. “Stefano’s power is not dependent on Andre,” insists EJ. He warns Sami that if she doesn’t go through with the terms to ending the vendetta, then her family will endure years of pain and suffering which Stefano will see to. Lucas tells EJ to take Stefano and head back to Italy. “Stefano has taught him how to sit there and make it look like he’s holding the wrath of he!! in his hands,” notes Lucas, who implores Sami to give it one more day before she signs her life away. Sami agrees to his request. EJ cautions her against changing her mind. “I make my own decisions. My family knows that,” asserts Sami, who rehashes John’s incident along with Roman’s ordeal. Lucas reminds EJ that he needs two signatures on the annulment papers. Sami announces she’s going home with her husband for now. “A lot can happen in a day,” says EJ after they leave the pub.

At the police station, Kayla fills Steve in on Pocket’s condition and reveals that Child Protective Services are assigning him to a new family. Steve is stunned and insists they need to do something. She warns him that their battle to keep Pocket won’t be easy, since the doctors found poisonous chemicals in his system such as ammonia. Steve wonders how this substance could get into his little system, then attempts to comfort her. She confronts him about holding a gun to a man’s head on live TV and speculates that CPS would’ve taken Pocket away from them even if he hadn’t gotten sick. She chastises Steve for his actions and claims she has to fight for the baby alone. “No you don’t,” he insists as he tries to touch her. She blasts him for making promises to her which he can’t keep. “I am so sick of living this way I could just scream!” she fumes. Steve claims it was the only way to save Roman. Kayla refers to Steve’s rescue mission as scary and dangerous and despairs over Pocket not being loved by another family. She finally allows Steve to hold her. “I love that baby. And I just want to get Pocket home,” she expresses. “His name’s Tyler,” announces Philip as he enters. Steve and Kayla are startled to see Philip there. Steve wonders how Phil knows Pocket’s real name. “Because he’s my son,” reveals Philip. Steve and Kayla implore Philip to drop the bomb on them and spill the whole story. He tells them the surrogate mix-up story and how he tracked Lauren down, who just died. “Until you offer solid proof that you’re Pocket’s dad, I don’t believe you,” affirms Steve who refuses to hand Pocket over until a judge orders otherwise. Philip offers to get a DNA test, then requests to see Tyler. Kayla and Steve reveal that Pocket had toxins in his system and how CPS has taken Tyler away from them. “What did you do to him?” he demands. “Excuse me?” replies Kayla. “Well it wouldn’t be the first time Steve did something crazy,” remarks Philip. Steve shoves him up against the wall and threatens to show him the meaning of crazy. An officer enters and pulls Steve off of Philip.

Steve apologizes for jumping Philip. “But you accused us of hurting Pocket,” Steve reminds him. Philip clarifies that his name is Tyler. Kayla insists they’re as worried about the baby as much as he is. She informs Philip that he’ll have to take the DNA testing up with Child Protective Services. “Fine. Consider it done,” replies Philip before he leaves. Kayla hugs Steve as he assures her that Pocket will be fine. She assumes they’ll lose Pocket for good if tests prove that Philip’s the father. “Not necessarily. Now you know me. I don’t give up on the people I love,” he assures her. Stefano interrupts and remarks how prison is very kind to Steve. “No restraints, lovely visitor,” he notes. Steve demands to know what he wants. Stefano announces that he’s come to drop the charges against Steve, mentioning that he paid the TV station a handsome amount of money for any inconvenience or damages and ensured that the station manager won’t pursue any legal action against Steve. “As of this moment, he is officially a free man,” declares Stefano. A skeptical Steve tells him to get out. Stefano claims he’s already signed the papers, but forewarns them that the FCC may require a fine or hearing.
