At the Brady Pub, Max brings Morgan some chili fries. By her reaction, he assumes she’s never had the exquisite dish before, which she confirms. He feeds her a mouthful, which makes her marvel at how good they are. She remarks how she’s loved every second of their date thus far with going to the racetrack and having nachos for dinner. Morgan then rambles on how mortifying her first date was as he tried to impress her with a limo and expensive restaurant. Max explains that with him “what you see is what you get.” “And I like what I see,” smiles Morgan.
At the hospital, a distraught Belle phones Hope and gives her the bad news about John. She joins Marlena by John’s bedside. Dr. Berman informs the ladies that John will be out for a while, since he just received a dosage of morphine. Belle wonders if the doctor’s just giving up. A weary Marlena tells Belle it’s time to say good-bye, which causes Belle to sob.
They later sit beside John as Dr. Berman gives them some privacy. Marlena insists there’s nothing more they can do, but Belle doubts otherwise and implores her mom to call someone or do something. Belle refuses to say good-bye to her father. Marlena urges her to be strong when John wakes up.
Meanwhile, a resentful Sami scowls to EJ that he and Stefano didn’t give her much of a choice in signing the annulment papers. EJ tries to assure Sami that he had nothing to do with John’s accident. She tells him to spare her and affirms that Lucas will sign it. EJ notes how Lucas was pretty adamant about not signing the papers before. “I’ll take care of it,” states Sami. EJ claims he hopes that both of their families can put all of the ugliness behind them and start over with a clean slate. Lucas approaches them and is shocked when Sami informs him that she taped up the annulment papers and is thus going through with it. A jaded Belle approaches them and doesn’t utter a word. Lucas reveals that he found Shawn, who was sleeping off his meds and is on his way. Belle quivers how John may not make it, since the damage is done. Sami comforts her distraught sister.
Chelsea finds Stephanie spying on Max and Morgan’s date outside the Brady Pub. She wonders why a jumpy Stephanie isn’t going in. Steph claims she wants to make sure Morgan’s getting her 500 bucks worth, which Chelsea doesn’t believe. “Okay, fine! I’m a pathetic stalker!” exclaims Stephanie. Steph whines how Morgan should’ve been turned off by Max’s “low rent wonderland,” but instead she’s acting as though she’s having the time of her life. “My God. She might actually be open-minded,” quips Chelsea. Steph notes that her cousin’s not helping and implores her to help figure out what Morgan’s up to. Chelsea admits that Stephanie’s starting to freak her out. “We have to save him from her,” insists Stephanie. Chelsea speculates that maybe Max doesn’t want to be saved.
Back inside the pub, Morgan notes what a gentleman Max is as he wipes her face off. Morgan coyly informs him that they’re being spied on by Stephanie. She reveals that Steph’s been following them all night. Max implies how he didn’t notice. Morgan surmises that he and Steph used to date, which Max confirms. Morgan deduces that Steph has feelings for him.
Outside the pub, stalker Stephanie wonders if Max saw her. She asks for a compact from Chelsea and views them through the mirror. Chelsea refers to her as obsessed, which Steph denies. Stephanie insists that Morgan will use Max and dump him. Chelsea advises Stephanie to let him go and reminds her that she dumped Max. She tries to assure Stephanie that every girl has her share of experience with loser first dates. “But Max isn’t a loser,” says Steph, who worries if Max is falling for Morgan.
Morgan questions Max’s previous relationship with Stephanie. Max admits Steph blew him off for another guy, who’s now out of the picture. Max claims he no longer has feelings for Stephanie and stutters about the prospect of seeing Morgan again. He apologizes that she had to pay so much for a date with him. She claims he’s worth every penny.
Back outside, Chelsea advises Stephanie to come clean to Max about her lingering feelings. Steph denies having any interest in Max and claims she’s only there to ensure that Morgan doesn’t take advantage of Max. Chelsea insists that Max can handle a girl like Morgan with his eyes closed.
Caroline brings some apple pie for Max and Morgan. Morgan thanks her and compliments her on the chili fries. After Caroline walks off, Morgan marvels how she loves Max’s mom. Max claims Caroline thinks she’s pretty great too. He then tells a brief story about how his mom disapproved of a girl he once dated with tattoos up and down her arm. Morgan remarks how Stephanie must’ve been a breath of fresh air after that one and wonders how long he and Steph dated. Max stammers how he and Steph dated for a month or two last year (with the real Stephanie, Shayna Rose), then recently had a couple of encounters and feelings that resurfaced. However, they decided that they were better off as friends. Morgan declares she’s 1000 percent single.
Outside, Chelsea wonders if Max would sleep with Morgan. Steph tells her to get her mind out of the gutter. Chelsea advises Steph to tell Max how she feels, but Stephanie claims she had her chance and blew it. Chelsea believes otherwise.
A preoccupied Caroline later reveals to Max that John was in an accident and may not survive. Max is bewildered since he just saw John at the gym this morning. Max says he’ll drop Morgan off, then take his parents to the hospital. Herelays the situation to Morgan, who hugs Max and tells him to call if he needs to talk. He refers to her and pretty terrific.
