In Belle’s room above the pub, Philip implores Belle to say the word and he’ll stay out of her life for good. Belle closes the door and admits she doesn’t want him to leave and couldn’t bear it if she never saw him again. They share a kiss before they fall onto the bed on the verge of making love. The clothes begin to come off as neither one can control themselves. Belle and Philip eventually go at it like wild animals in her bed. She later climbs on top of Philip savoring his body and moving on down when she accidentally knocks a vase over with her foot.
Belle puts her robe on about as quickly as her clothes came off and claims that their rendevous never should’ve happened. She implores him to get out of there and refers to their sexcapade as a mistake. Philip tries to touch her and insists there was nothing wrong with what they did. “It was just sex. That’s all it was and it will never happen again,” she affirms. A panicked Belle begs Philip to leave and insists Shawn can never find out about their affair. She asks why he’s even doing this, rehashing how he left over a year ago without saying good-bye. He declares it was the biggest mistake of his life and speculates that she’s not happy. “Yes I am. I love Shawn,” she claims. “Why haven’t you married him yet?” he asks. She tells him to get out. He admits he’s not sorry about what they did and professes to love her as she shoves him out the door.
Shawn enters the pub and encounters Hope in the company of pumpkins. Hope is excited to hear about his day at the police station. A bitter Shawn reveals that his enrollment in the academy has been postponed until further review, then proceeds to march upstairs. Hope stops him and asks what happened. Shawn states that his case is being reviewed by the board of trustees, since he defied a court order earlier this year. He moans that Philip tipped them off. Hope wonders why Philip would try to sabotage his chances of getting into the academy when just a few months ago Philip was trying to help him get a job. Shawn implies that it all boils down to Belle and reveals that he found Belle and Philip together at the church and it was as though he was interrupting something. He fumes how he’s trying to give Philip the benefit of the doubt, but Hope cuts him off and claims Belle has a lot going on right now. She tries to assure him that Belle loves him, but Shawn suspects she loves Philip too. Hope suspects that if Belle had feelings for Philip she never would’ve agreed to marry Shawn. She implores Shawn to trust Belle. Shawn says it’s Philip he doesn’t trust, since he’d do anything to get face time with Belle, even resorting to bad mouthing him to the commander. Hope insists that Belle doesn’t care what Shawn is, whether it’s a garbage collector, plumber, cop, or attorney, because it doesn’t define who he is. “Well I’m none of those things. And it makes Philip and all of his money look that much better,” moans Shawn, who speculates that Philip probably paid off Commander Flynn. Shawn suspects a red flag, since Flynn previously referred to him as academy material. Hope warns him that if he doesn’t stop with all of his accusations, then Belle will see nothing but all of his insecurities. She advises him to do a little detective work and see if Philip’s been playing fair or dirty. “It’s good experience for when you’re on the force,” she asserts. Shawn doubts he’ll even make it that far and states that Belle needs to be proud of him and believe in him. Hope then remembers seeing Phil’s car in the parking lot and surmises that he gave Belle a ride home.
Shawn later storms back in the pub after seeing Philip’s car in the parking lot. Hope urges him not to get all worked up about it before he marches upstairs. “Otherwise, you’re gonna say something that you’re gonna regret,” warns Hope. “The only thing I regret is not taking care of this sooner,” claims Shawn. They are stunned to see Philip emerge from upstairs. Hope gathers her things up and leaves the men to talk. Shawn questions Philip as to what he’s doing there. Philip says he gave Belle a ride home since her car wouldn’t start. Shawn demands to know what Phil was doing in their room. Philip claims he was being a gentleman and simply walking Belle to her door. Shawn notes that it took a long time for Philip to do that. He confronts Philip about taking advantage of every opportunity to spend time with Belle and guilting her about helping him find Tyler. Philip derides Shawn about hitting a rough patch with Belle. Shawn claims he and Belle are better than ever, which Phil calls a joke. He orders Philip to leave Belle alone, insisting she’s off limits. “Not for long,” says a smug Philip, who claims that Belle’s miserable. Philip admits he’ll always love Belle and vice versa.
Belle later sits and cries over her mistake with Philip and takes the covers off the bed. Hope and Ciara are just outside and Hope knocks on Belle’s door, then opens it to find the room in disarray. Belle lies about doing laundry and accidentally knocking the vase over. Hope notes she’s been crying. Belle sums it up to missing her dad and rambles on about missing classes. “I love my son,” interjects Hope. “And there is nothing I won’t do to protect him,” affirms Hope, who calmly implores Belle to spill the truth about what happened with her and Philip.
Lucas visits Sami in her hospital room. They marvel how tiny and perfect their twins are. Lucas remarks how terrific Marlena was throughout the birthing process. “So were you,” smiles Sami, who chuckles how he didn’t faint or pass out. He promises to be there for the next few births. She suggests they choose a name for the girl and brings up Julia Roberts. Lucas suggests Jane, then Jezebel, which Sami refers to as sexy. She implores Lucas not to let what EJ said bother him, since there’s no reason for fraternal twins to look alike. Sami assures him that both of the babies are his, reminding him that they had the DNA test. “Yeah, well Nick screwed that up the first time didn’t he?” rehashes Lucas. Sami suspects that Kate had something to do with it.
