Roman later arrives at the scene. He offers to take Kate to the hospital, but she insists she’s fine. He then suspiciously notes the shot by the driver’s seat, then wonders just how low she ducked. Kate sighs how she got completely under the dash. Lucas then arrives, to Kate’s surprise. He asks if she’s alright and embraces his mother. Roman assures him that someone will be assigned to watch over his mom. Lucas of course suspects Stefano’s involvement. Roman implores Kate to come down to the station to answer a few questions, but she claims she’s told him everything she knows. After Roman leaves, Lucas questions what Kate was doing out there. She concocts a story about driving around to relax when a person pulled up next ot her. Kate encourages him to go home to Sami, insisting she can take care of herself. “Yeah, well, there’s one way to make sure of that,” he says as he hands her a gun. Kate is astonished and refuses to take it, but Lucas insists it’s the only way to protect themselves. Kate reluctantly complies and apologizes for some of the things she’s said to Sami. Lucas assumes that when she forgets the incident, she’ll go back to business as usual. “No. Never ever again,” asserts Kate, who insists that Lucas needs to go back to Sami before they leave together.
Unwelcome visitor EJ enters Sami’s room bearing flowers. Sami warns him that Lucas will be right back. EJ implies that Lucas was on the phone earlier regarding an emergency with Kate. Sami proceeds to call him as she tells EJ to get out. EJ questions if she’s still going to Santo Domingo. “Lucas won’t go,” states Sami. “Well maybe today will be the day that he changes his mind,” previews EJ. Belle proceeds to go pick up Claire, but Sami insists they aren’t done talking. EJ feigns politeness before he heads to the nursery. Belle notes the weird vibe in the room when EJ was just there and wonders if Sami feels anything for EJ. “Lots of things. Hate, loathing, disgust,” replies Sami. Belle offers to bring some old infant clothes over for Sami later. Sami thanks her and expresses excitement that their kids will grow up so close. “Yeah, it will be really fun with EJ in the picture,” quips Belle. Sami insists she’s doing it for their families and kids. The sisters exchange hugs and “I love you’s” before Belle departs.
Sami steals a hug from Uncle Bo when he arrives. Bo mentions that he just saw Marlena at the pub. “She wants me to keep you from marrying a DiMera,” reveals Bo. Sami claims she’s heard all of the arguments. “Heard, not listened,” clarifies Bo. Sami states that she has the upper hand where EJ is concerned, since he loves her and she hates him. Bo laughs when Sami insists that Stefano won’t get anywhere near her or her kids. “The DiMeras are very used to getting what they want,” affirms Bo. “Well so am I,” counters Sami. She asks Bo to support her and understand that she’s doing it for the family. Bo refuses, stating that it’s not worth the risk. Sami declares that her mind is made up. Lucas then arrives and asks Bo for a moment alone with Sami. Bo hugs Sami and says he’s not giving up on her, then leaves. Lucas reveals that someone took a shot at Kate when she was out driving, then tells Sami that they need to fly to Santo Domingo to get a divorce.
Lucas later implores Sami to do something for him in return if he agrees to fly to Santo Domingo. He expresses how he wants to be able to be with her as much as he can. She promises him that they will be together forever. Sami reveals that she spoke to her doctor along with Steve and Kayla, who agreed to watch the twins. Lucas reminds her that it’s their first night home. Sami says she knows, but the sooner the better. “Lucas, thank you for being the most perfect almost ex-husband a girl could ask for,” she cries. “I love you Sami,” he says before kissing her.
EJ later visits Stefano and announces that Lucas is close to agreeing to a divorce. Stefano is delighted and suggests they honeymoon in Italy. EJ then informs him that another DNA test is being performed and the baby boy may be his. Stefano stands up in excitement at the thought of having a grandson. EJ marvels how the stem cells could save Stefano’s life. The men agree to keep this excitement to themselves. Rolf then informs Stefano that he has a visitor who came around the back. Stefano kisses Kate on each cheek and notes the scratch on her face. He insists on having Rolf look at her, but she declines. Rolf insists it’s time for Stefano to rest, since his current health is now of the upmost concern. Stefano expresses how proud of Elvis he is and hugs him before going off to rest. Kate reveals that Lucas showed up after their plan and admits she never should’ve doubted Lucas. She laments how bitter and angry Lucas is. EJ gloats how Lucas will now divorce Samantha, which will pave the way for his wedding. “And it’s going to hurt him, because he loves her very, very much,” insists Kate. EJ notes that in a game of chess there are winners and losers, but unfortunately for Lucas it’s “checkmate.” He makes a toast as Kate looks at him with disgust. She presents the “gift” that Lucas gave to her. “If Lucas ever learns the truth, and if I find out you’re responsible, you’re going to find out what a good shot I really am,” she vows.
Bo later arrives back at the pub, where he and Hope briefly discuss Sami and Marlena. Hope mentions how Marlena said she would handle EJ by murdering him. He admits he would sure as he!! understand if Marlena took the law into her own hands, referring to it as vigilante justice.
