The King of Bad Ideas

By , About.com Guide

John enters the DiMera living room mansion to find a dejected Nicole. “I take it your evening didn’t go so well,” he assumes. Nicole complains how E.J. will never love her or this baby. “Damn Sami to hell!” she fumes. Nicole proceeds to leave, but John encourages her to stay, predicting that she’ll drive into a tree if she leaves this upset. He invites her to have a drink, but then realizes that she can’t. “Come on, tell me I’m an idiot,” she implores. “You’re an idiot, for thinking that you’re an idiot,” responds John. Nicole apologizes for being short with John, whining how it’s E.J. she should be mad at. John concludes that E.J. didn’t take the news about the baby very well. “I didn’t tell him,” reveals Nicole, who rants how E.J. left her again for his precious Samantha. “So why didn’t you just stop Elvis from leaving by playing the baby card?” questions John. Nicole admits to being manipulative, conniving, and selfish, but professes that she would never play a game with the life of a child. She recalls how three doctors told her it was near impossible for her to have children, and now she’s proven them wrong. She gets emotional upon expressing how there’s a little person growing inside of her. John asks if she’s willing to raise this child on her own. Nicole reiterates her willingness to do this, then cries how she doesn’t know what she’s saying.

Nicole admits that E.J. deserves to know the truth about his child, although she’s not stupid enough to think he’ll marry her. John believes E.J. takes fatherhood very seriously, but warns her that Stefano is very possessive of his grandchildren. Nicole says she’ll handle Stefano when the time comes, but right now she just wants to focus on her miracle. John has a feeling she’ll rise to the occasion when it comes to motherhood. He notes how happy she is about it. Nicole expresses how she’s feeling happy, sad, confused, terrified, but mostly she feels grateful that she’s been given a second chance to do something right. John proposes a celebration and invites her to come to Chez Rouge. A crying Nicole proceeds to get her coat.

E.J. arrives to see Sami at the hospital and asks her what’s wrong. A hesitant Sami tells him he shouldn’t have come, revealing that she fainted but it’s not a big deal. A concerned E.J. encourages her to tell him what’s wrong. “E.J., I’m actually fine,” demurs Sami. E.J. wants answers and asks why she’s there in the first place. Sami reiterates that she fainted, but she’s fine, healthy and can leave. She questions where he was. E.J. reveals that he was having dinner with Nicole, which infuriates Sami. She yells how she doesn’t want to see him and orders him to get out. He proceeds to get back to his dinner, stating that it was a hell of a lot more fun than being yelled at by her. Sami continues to argue with him about Nicole. E.J. questions if she thinks he would be having dinner with anyone else if she wasn’t so fickle. An irate Sami yells how he pants after Nicole and calls him a shallow bastard. E.J. claims the date didn’t mean anything. Sami requests to be alone. He calmly asks what the doctor said was wrong with her. Sami claims that her blood sugar levels were low, so she had some fruit and juice. She asks him to please leave her alone. He reluctantly leaves and Sami breaks down in tears.

An angry E.J. arrives home at the mansion to encounter Stefano smoking a cigar and playing chess. He pours himself a drink as Stefano wonders what Samantha has done now. E.J. rants about how completely clueless Sami is. He agrees that although physically Sami’s beautiful, she doesn’t have a heart. “So, that is why you are hopelessly in love with her?” assumes Stefano. E.J. laughs and denies being in love with her, but admit he’s supposedly infatuated. “She just appeals to all the worst parts of me,” he surmises. He states that the only thing he gets out of a relationship with Sami is something self-destructive and masochistic. Stefano asks if he’s finished with his rant, speculating that it’s coming from E.J.’s anger and frustration, not from his heart. E.J. jokes about Stefano being his shrink. Stefano reminds E.J. that he shares a child with Samantha, which is the reason she’s so important to him. Sami comes down the stairs and overhears Stefano declaring that the child they share bounds them for life. A daunted Sami rushes back upstairs. Stefano surmises that he’ll never be free of Sami. He implores Elvis to either love Sami or go on fighting it.

John and Nicole are at Chez Rouge, where she notes that her non-alcoholic beverage looks like champagne. She admits she’s having a fine time without the real stuff, moaning how the real stuff only numbs the pain. She notes that John seems like a pretty decent person, believing his heart’s in the right place. “Some people don’t think I have one,” he says. Nicole expresses what a good guy he is, never thinking she would confide in him. John becomes disoriented and dizzy, then lays his head down on the table. An alarmed Nicole rushes to John’s side, yelling for someone to call an ambulance. She assures him than an ambulance will take him to the hospital, but a weak John protests against this.

John comes to and Nicole appears concerned. He claims he’s fine and jokes how he’s not the one who needs medical attention. Nicole clarifies that she’s not sick, she’s just pregnant. John wants some advice from Nicole. “What does a man like me have to do to get my wife back?” he questions. Nicole chuckles how John’s asking her for relationship advice, referring to herself as a total flop in the romantic department. John assures her she’s just been unlucky, that’s all. Nicole advises him to tell Marlena he loves her. “She doesn’t trust me anymore. She wants a divorce,” reveals John. Nicole sighs and offers to wrack her brain and figure out a way to help him, only if he helps her get E.J. to realize that she’s the one who can make him happy. They agree to help each other and make a non-alcoholic toast to their new alliance.
