A Man Used to Getting His Way

By Gwen Morett, About.com

Victor arrives and asks to talk to Caroline alone. Caroline has tears in his eyes and tells him that he shouldn’t have come. He admits it was killing him to think that she was locked up like a criminal. She tries to assure him that Mickey’s working very hard to get her out. Victor offers to call Gene Briscoe, but Caroline insists on Mickey. She asks him not to get involved and just leave the situation to her, but that’s easier said than done for Victor. Caroline assumes that since he doesn’t have faith in the justice system, then it must mean he doesn’t have faith in her. Victor says nothing could be further from the truth. Caroline believes the judge will set bail and she’ll be set free. Victor refuses to let her spend another night in jail and vows to fix this, regardless of what she says. She expresses how much it means that he’s there for her and that he cares so much. “I never stopped caring, Caroline, because I never stopped loving you. And I never will,” he professes. He vows not to lose her again, rehashing how he let her go once before. Caroline professes to care for him and asks him to let her handle this her way.

Victor reluctantly agrees to not interfere, but vows to do everything in his power to find out who wanted Trent Robbins dead. Caroline suggests that it might be easier to find out who didn’t want him dead. She chuckles and Victor expresses how much it means to him to see her smile. Caroline expresses what a wonderful man and wonderful friend he is. Officer Chatsworth tells him his time is up. Caroline fights to hold the tears back after he leaves.

Meanwhile, Steve encourages Kayla to forget about Victor and reveals that the police are looking carefully at Melanie. Kayla reminds him that Max also threatened Trent. Steve theorizes that Nicole Walker could be taking Caroline’s place in that cell, revealing that she was married to Trent and the divorce never went through. Bo emerges and confirms this to a bewildered Kayla. Officer Chatsworth brings Bo some reports, which could be the break they’re looking for.

Bo tells Kayla she doesn’t have to hang around and agrees to call if there’s any news. Kayla can’t leave with her mother sitting in a cell. Bo reveals that Caroline has Victor visiting her and didn’t have the heart to kick him out, since their ma needs all the support and friends she can get. “Victor wants more than just friendship,” affirms Kayla, who believes Victor is using the situation to get some inroads with Caroline. She wonders if their ma could really be prosecuted. Bo says all they need to do is come up with evidence that someone else could’ve committed the crime.

Kayla is later on the phone with Kimberly, filling her in on Caroline’s situation. She agrees to let her sister know the second they find out anything. Bo hands Kayla the final lab report on the fingerprints, which reveals that no other fingerprints were found on the knife. He receives a phone call, disheartened that the D.A. will move forward and charge Caroline with murder. Victor overhears in the background.

Bo and Kayla come to Caroline’s cell, where Bo informs her that her prints were the only ones on the weapon. Thus, the D.A. believes there’s enough evidence to charge her. “You’re gonna have to stand trial for murder,” Kayla gravely reveals. Caroline’s heart sinks and Kayla comforts her.

Sami later arrives at the hospital and tells Dr. Whitaker that she feels much better. Lucas emerges and implores her to get checked out. The doctor asks Sami if she had anything to eat today and if she’s on any medications. Sami says she had fruit and she’s only on vitamins. Dr. Whitaker wants to run some tests, but Sami insists that she feels much better already.

After Dr. Whitaker leaves, Sami wonders if the good doctor is trying to scare the daylights out of her or if it’s just his way of keeping her against her will. Lucas tries to assure an irate Sami that the doctor just wants to know why she fainted. She insists that she fainted because her grandma was arrested, and the last thing she needs is the doctor making her think she’s dying. “He didn’t say you were dying,” grins an amused Lucas. “Obviously he thinks there’s something seriously wrong with me,” surmises Sami. “Well, we’ve all known that for years, haven’t we?” jokes Lucas. He admits he’s a little worried about her, affirming that he never stopped caring about her. Sami still doesn’t know what went wrong between them. Lucas clarifies that it was a ‘who’, not a ‘what.’ Nurse Maxine comes in to take some blood from Sami, who complains that she hates needles. Lucas stays by a nervous Sami and holds her hand. A squeamish Sami leans against Lucas.

Sami impatiently waits for Dr. Whitaker to run her tests. Lucas encourages her to relax and be a good patient. Relaxing is easier said than done for Sami, especially since her grandmother is in jail for a crime she didn’t commit. She thanks him for hanging out with her, but tells him he doesn’t have to wait around anymore. Lucas refuses to go anywhere until the doctor comes back. “Isn’t Chloe wondering where you are?” questions Sami. Lucas confirms that he already called her and agreed to hook up with her later. Sami notes that he and Chloe have been spending a lot of time together. Lucas doesn’t know if it will last, since Chloe wants to get back into singing and join an opera company. Sami admits that she doesn’t think Chloe is right for him. Lucas says the same about her and E.J. Sami affirms that she and E.J. aren’t together, they’re just trying to raise a child together. She declares that she wants to focus on her life and on getting a job so she can take the twins and get out of that “looney bin.” Lucas admits how proud of her he is, as it sounds like she’s determined to stand on her own two feet. He refers to her as strong and resourceful, and someone who doesn’t need a man to lean on. She agrees that she needs to be her own person and vows that nothing’s going to stand in her way. Dr. Whitaker emerges and has her test results and asks if she wants to discuss her news in private. Sami agrees to let Lucas hear the news. “You’re pregnant,” he reveals.
