Excuses are for Cowards and Children

By Gwen Morett, About.com

Marlena wants an answer as to why Sami’s spending time with her ex-husband, as she senses something different about Sami the past few days. John arrives to check on Sami, asking if she’s okay. Sami thanks him and claims she’s fine. John questions what the two ladies were arguing about. Marlena informs John that she asked Sami to stay with her, but she said no. John invites Sami to stay with him at his gigantic suite at the Salem Inn. Sami thanks him for the offer, but says she’s staying with Lucas at the Horton cabin. She proceeds to call Lucas to see if he can pick her up.

Marlena worries about Sami being in some kind of trouble. “You worry too much, Blondie,” he smiles, as he suggests it’s better to think positively. Marlena yells how his “think positively” suggestion is easier said than done when it’s someone’s child. She apologizes for taking it out on him and thanks him for offering Sami a place to stay. John questions what she’s up to, mentioning the divorce papers. Marlena says she hasn’t filed them yet. John wonders what’s the hold up, since she was the one who pushed it. “I don’t know,” she confesses.

Sami urges Lucas to pick up the phone, but he’s too busy making out with Chloe to notice his vibrating phone. Lucas nuzzles her neck until he hears his phone vibrate. Chloe implores him to ignore it, but he can’t since it might be about Allie. “How come you don’t ever answer the damn phone?” questions an irate Sami, who complains how she’s been calling forever. She needs him to come and get her, but he claims he’s a bit busy. “I don’t care if you’re having brain surgery. Lucas I need you!” she insists, as she reveals that she came face to face with a hit man today. After she hangs up, Lucas gets dressed and proceeds to go pick her up. Chloe whines and pouts about him going to pick up his ex.

Back at the Horton Cabin

Lucas brings Sami back home, where Chloe notes how she’s really starting to show. Sami assumes that Lucas spilled the beans about her pregnancy and wonders what the hell he was thinking. Chloe tells her to relax, as it’s not like she’s going to shout it from the rooftops. Lucas assumes she didn’t tell E.J. yet. Sami chews Lucas out for giving away her secret to his girlfriend. An irritated Chloe heads out to see a friend. Sami lays into him for giving away her pregnancy secret after she begged him not to. She rehashes her ordeal with seeing the mayor shot dead and then coming face to face with the killer.

Meanwhile, the mayor’s killer tells someone that by the end of the night, Samantha Brady will be dead. The killer later loads a gun, intent of killing his target, Sami Brady.

After they talk about Sami’s traumatic ordeal, Lucas asks her about telling E.J. Before they can get into another argument, E.J. knocks at the door and enters. Lucas makes a crack about how E.J.’s ears must be burning. Sami tells E.J. to go, but he reminds her that she witnessed a murder today and thought it might be helpful if she talk about it. Sami tells him again to just leave, but E.J. needs her to convince him that she’s alright. Meanwhile, the killer is just outside targeting Sami with his gun.

Back at the DiMera Mansion

Nicole is later left alone and is relieved to see Chloe show up. Nicole admits she’s glad to see her and could really use her company. She shares her worry about her hold on E.J., bringing up Sami. Chloe rants how sick of Sami she is. Nicole is sure Sami has her hooks into E.J. “Nicole, there’s something you need to know about Sami,” shares Chloe.

Brady Pub

Tony and a distressed Lexie arrive outside and see Abe having a luncheon inside. Lexie admits that she may be the one who got the mayor killed. She shares how she gave Stefano an ultimatum to cut off his financial and political support of Mayor Marino. Otherwise, he would never see Theo again. Tony tries to assure her that she did what she had to. Lexie continues to blame herself, believing that her ultimatum resulted in murder. Tony wonders why Stefano would have the mayor shot in front of the mansion if indeed he was behind the murder. “The man’s ruthless, but he’s not stupid,” points out Tony. Lexie believes it’s too much of a coincidence. She can’t help but shake the feeling that Stefano killed Mayor Marino for her.

Tony notes how Abe’s informal luncheon is being corrupted by the media. Lexie believes Abe doesn’t look too happy, but she can’t go inside, fearing she could be questioned by the recent murder. Tony advises her to say, “no comment” or just say nothing at all. Abe comes outside asking her why she didn’t come in. He remarks how exhausted he is and needs a five minute break. Tony questions why the media’s inside. Abe reveals how he planned a small support rally with a few of his advisors to discuss the mayor’s murder, then before they knew it, a press conference broke out. He asks Lexie to come inside with him. Meanwhile, Stefano lurks nearby. A nervous Lexie wonders if the media will be asking her questions about the mayor’s murder. A suspicious Abe wonders why they would do that, then invites Tony to join them inside.

Inside the pub, Abe announces to the press that the concerns of the people of Salem will be heard. One of the reporters asks Abe to comment on the murder of Mayor Marino at his father-in-law’s estate. Abe refers to it as a tragic event, and their hearts go out to the Marino family. Two of the reporters bring up how Stefano funded the mayor’s campaign. Abe asserts that he’s never taken a dime from Stefano DiMera, and he never will.

After the media fiasco, Lexie mutters to Tony what a disaster it was. Tony believes Abe did a wonderful job deflecting the spotlight from her. Lexie worries about the suspicion still being there. Tony tries to assure her again that she hasn’t done anything wrong. Abe approaches them and questions what the two of them are talking about. One of Abe’s advisors interrupts and states that they need to see him for a few more minutes. Tony implores Lexie to stop fretting, trying to reassure her that it’s not her fault. Lexie worries about the mayor’s killer possibly having plans to take another person out.
