The Vegan Nut Job and the Babbling Psychopath

By Gwen Morett, About.com

E.J. furiously rehashes how Sami was nearly shot dead right in front of him and thought for a second that he was going to lose Johnny’s mother. “So don’t flip out every time I mention her name, alright?” he seethes. An angry E.J. asserts that Sami is a part of his life, and if Nicole doesn’t like it, they have nothing between them except for their child. He vows that his son or daughter won’t be born in prison, but the courts can decide whatever happens to Nicole after that. He storms out and Nicole yells at him not to leave her in there. She then feels her abdomen and cries, swearing that she didn’t kill Trent.

Brady Pub

Melanie approaches Max at the bar and wishes him a Happy Halloween. She informs Max that Bo and Hope tried to set her up today, filling him on the note which Mr. Berman left her and how she’s no longer the prime suspect. “Good for you,” says Max unenthusiastically. Melanie asks Max if he got the box, but Max doesn't care and just wants to forget all about the past few months ever happening. Melanie wonders if that means he wants to forget her as well. Max admits that he’s glad he found her, but she put him through hell and just needs a little space to himself.

Melanie assumes that Max blames her for his breakup with Stephanie. Max tells her she would’ve saved everyone a lot of trouble had she been truthful from the start. Melanie says she didn’t mean to hurt him and apologizes. He asks what she’s going to do now. She claims she’s going to get a job and save enough to buy a place of her own. Nick arrives and offers to let Melanie stay with him. Melanie smiles how generous it is of Nick, but Max doesn’t think it’s appropriate. Nick insists that it would be at Mickey and Maggie’s house. Melanie is tempted by the offer, but asks to speak to Max first. Nick walks off and takes a pill.

Max gives the okay as long as things are platonic between Nick and Melanie. Melanie jokes how it’s not like she and Nick are going to have hot, sweaty sex at his aunt’s house. She thanks him for looking out for her. Bo arrives and is glad they are there. Nick joins the gang as Bo informs them that they have a strong case against Nicole Walker, enough to get the charges dropped against Caroline. Melanie warns Bo that she’s still going to have her attorney file a harassment suit against him, Hope, and the entire Salem P.D. Bo claims they were just doing their jobs. Melanie berates Bo for treating her like dirt and trying to make her pay for a crime which she didn’t commit. Bo states that they had plenty of reasons to suspect her, especially since she was sneaking around planting evidence on innocent people. He implores Max to open his eyes about his sister, believing that if it wasn’t for Melanie’s lies and manipulations, Max would still be with Stephanie.

Melanie agrees to be the perfect houseguest for Nick. She tells Max that she and Nick are leaving, then apologizes for what happened with Stephanie. Max thanks Nick for looking out for his sister. Melane admits that she has a hard time wrapping her head around Nicole Walker killing her dad. “Yeah, me too,” agrees Nick. Nick takes her bag outside while Melanie proceeds to grab her purse. She then approaches a table and picks up a knife. “You are a lucky little girl,” she says.

Safe House

Hilda is passed out and snoring on the sofa. Sami complains how Hilda is just as annoying asleep as she is awake. She rolls Hilda over in an attempt to get the remote, then hears the doorbell ring and assumes it’s trick or treaters. Meanwhile, someone continues to lurk outside the door. Sami becomes spooked when someone attempts to get in. She frantically urges a snoring Hilda to wake up before hiding behind the sofa. “Come out slowly. Hands in the air,” implores the man as he enters. Sami stands up with her hands in the air and begs him not to kill her. She turns around and he recognizes her as Samantha Brady. “Who are you?” she asks. “Agent Rafe Hernandez,” he reveals, as he displays his FBI badge. He sees Hilda passed out on the sofa and questions what’s wrong with her. Sami lies that she fell asleep watching TV. He looks at Hilda’s phone and notes how it’s on vibrate. Sami claims it’s her fault, believing that insomniac Hilda needed her sleep. Rafe yells at a snoring Hilda, then looks at her eyes and deduces she’s been drugged. “You’ve got a lot of explaining to do,” he forewarns a guilty Sami.

Rafe assumes Sami drugged Hilda. “Well, I may have put some sleeping pills in her tea,” shrugs Sami innocently, who insists that Hilda was driving her crazy, wouldn’t shut up, and was invading her personal space. “Are you stupid? You are in the Witness Protection Program, not a damn sorority!” he asserts. He chews her out for putting not only her life at risk, but that of Hilda’s. Sami believes he’s blowing things out of proportion. Hilda wakes up and asks Rafe what happened, then concludes that Sami drugged her. Hilda inches closer to Sami, chewing her out for putting sleeping pills in her tea. Sami claims she just wanted some peace and quiet and apologizes. “Well, sorry isn’t enough you bleached blond bimbo,” warns Hilda, who declares that she’s done. Rafe tries to talk Hilda out of it. Hilda doesn’t care if she’s put on desk duty for the rest of her life and refuses to stick around with the “sneaky little spoiled brat.”

After Hilda storms out, Rafe tells Sami she should’ve gotten on her knees and begged Hilda to stay. Sami rants about Darrell, “the vegan nut job” and Hilda, “the babbling psychopath.” She insists that all she wants is a professional who can really do their job. Rafe intends to call Roman and tell him what happened, which Sami isn’t crazy about. He has a change of heart and decides not to call Roman, but will have to call someone and report that Hilda resigned. He warns her that she’ll probably get someone outside the Salem P.D. town pool, who will be savvier and see through her little games.

Rafe later asks Sami to turn the TV down while he’s on the phone, telling his superior that Hilda walked out. He then gets off the phone and is less than thrilled to reveal that he’s Hilda’s replacement.
