At the hospital, Lexie informs Steve that Pocket is fine. A frantic Kayla rushes in, where Steve recounts the events leading up to Pocket’s hospitalization. She is horrified when he reveals that Pocket’s little stomach had to be pumped due to poisoning. The pediatrician then brings Pocket out to Kayla and reveals that the lower GI showed two small ulcers in the small intestine. They will know the results of what toxin they’re dealing with in a couple of days. The pediatrician advises Steve and Kayla to take a good look around their home and make sure there’s nothing Pocket can get into. Kayla gets defensive at this request and claims she and Steve have taken every precaution in their home. The doctor proceeds to go write a prescription for Pocket’s antibiotics. Kayla fumes how the doctor could accuse them of negligence. Lexie states Steve’s speculation that a DiMera was involved. Steve doubts it was Stefano, then blames Pocket’s illness on himself.
Lexie takes it upon herself to take Pocket while Steve and Kayla chat. Kayla wonders why Steve is blaming himself. Steve says he used a spray cleaner and may have forgotten to wash his hands before handling Pocket, but Kayla highly doubts this caused Pocket’s condition. Steve notes that every time he cares for Pocket, something bad happens. Kayla assures him he’s a great dad. Nevertheless, Steve continues to blame himself and suspects that the doctor would’ve called Child Protective Services on him if Kayla hadn’t shown up. Kayla urges him to believe in himself as a father and believe nothing bad will happen. “The DiMeras messed with your head, but they could never mess with your heart!” she insists. She points out that babies get sick and encourages him to cut himself some slack as she hugs him.
Max continues to knock on the door at Steve and Kayla’s suite, insisting on talking to Steph. He begs her for five minutes. Stephanie urges Jeremy to go hide. She opens the door and tells Max to leave. Max deduces that Jeremy’s got her all worked up. Stephanie dodges the topic of Jeremy. Max continues to badger her about her feelings for Jeremy and assumes that he was there. He implores Steph to spill the truth regarding Jeremy’s whereabouts. She goads him out the door, claiming she doesn’t need his help. Steph then has a memory of her talk with Max in the cave and kissing him. Jeremy comes out of the bedroom and confronts Stephanie about her conversation with Max. Steph claims that Max is just super protective. Jeremy wonders if she’d really turn him in like she told Max. She insists she only told Max that so he’d get off her case. He demands to know if she revealed any info to the cops so they could nail him. By her hesitation, he assumes she ratted him out. She rehashes how he dumped her in Vegas, which made her assume that they were finished. “You’re the one who dumped me. I gave you a choice,” counters Jeremy. He is about to leave and moans that he has 10 bucks, but can’t go to his parents. Steph freaks out when she hears her parents’ voices down the hall and urges Jeremy to hide in the bedroom. Steve, Kayla, and Pocket come home, where they briefly fill her in on Pocket’s illness. Kayla suggests they postpone their dinner plans. A nervous Steph suggests ordering in, but her parents claim they’re beat. She then announces she wants to move back in immediately. Steve and Kayla are puzzled by her request, since Adrienne raved about how she loved having Steph stay with her. Kayla is suspicious that Stephanie is hiding something. Stephanie claims she simply misses them and feels left out. Kayla apologizes and agrees to let Stephanie move back in. Steve jokes about having someone else around to change diapers. Stephanie hugs her parents and refers to them as awesome. Kayla proceeds to make up Stephanie’s room, but Steph insists on doing it since that’s where Jeremy’s hiding. Stephanie and Kayla exchange “I love you’s.”
After Steve and Kayla go into their bedroom, Jeremy emerges from Steph’s room and thanks her for covering for him. She whines about being stuck with her parents. “If I do this favor for you, then you have to do one for me,” she insists. She implores him to turn himself in to her dad. He doubts it will make much of a difference. She reminds him of her brilliant performance in front of her parents and states she has them wrapped around her pinky finger. She agrees to give Jeremy 48 hours to talk to her dad. Otherwise, he’s out of there. He agrees and coaxes her to share the bed with him. She tells him to try the floor, noting that it beats sleeping on a park bench. Steve comes out of his bedroom as Steph and Jeremy hide in hers. Steve then spots Jeremy’s badge on the floor and realizes he’s there.
Back at the hospital, Lexie asks Shawn why in the world he would encourage Belle to go on that trip with Philip. He claims he’s just trying to give her some space and prove that he can trust her. Max then arrives to visit Shawn, who apologizes to Max for losing the garage. Shawn assures Max that he’ll be back on top of things before he knows it. Max says that’s not all he lost, referring to Stephanie. Shawn encourages Max to keep his head up and recalls how a year ago he was in a marriage based on lies. Lexie chuckles how Max is thinking of settling down. Max surmises that he hasn’t found the right girl yet.
