Trent reveals that he did a little research on Victor and compares him to Donald Trump. A hostile Nicole suggests that he max out his credit cards or talk to his publisher if he’s so hard up for cash. “My resources are depleted. I need your help. Please?” he asks. Nicole is surprised to hear him using the word ‘please’ and figures he must be desperate. “So, just how deep in debt are you?” she asks. “Twenty grand,” he replies. Nicole can’t believe he’s still gambling and rants how he’s always trying to cover his losses. She affirms that he has a serious problem which twenty grand won’t fix.
Victor and Philip sit on the bench outside, where Victor states that now’s not the time to be taking vacations, since they need to get the mess cleaned up in their shipping division. Victor apologizes for being short with him, but sometimes believes it’s the only way to get his attention. He states that right now, Philip has to immerse himself in Titan. Philip wonders if it’s possible to have it all. Victor assures him that it is, he just has to be patient. “Do you ever wonder what it would be like if you were still with mom?” ponders Philip, as he sometimes wishes that they were still together. Victor wonders where this is coming from. Philip reveals that Kate was at the hospital earlier with a really bad cough and she refused to take some X-rays. Victor agrees to talk to Kate and wonders what else Phil is worried about. Philip implores Victor to ask his godson, ranting how he thought Daniel was a cool guy until he pulls something like this.
Back inside, Morgan brings Kate some water and advises her to have her nasty cough checked out. Kate says she went to see Kayla and convinced her to prescribe some antibiotics, but they just haven’t kicked in yet. She asks Morgan not to say anything to Philip about this “little attack.” Victor and Philip re-enter, where Victor insists that he needs to talk to Kate right now.
Morgan and Philip sit together, where Morgan assumes that Phil told his father about Daniel. Morgan is sure that Kate didn’t intentionally hurt Chelsea. Philip believes his mother knows better, since she’s an adult. “Oh, like you’ve never made mistakes in a relationship before,” remarks Morgan. Philip admits he’s not perfect and questions Morgan about her previous love life. Morgan reveals that she dated Max Brady for a few months last fall. Phil is surprised to hear that Max broke up with her, but Morgan explains that Max was still hung up on Stephanie. She realizes that Max wasn’t the guy for her.
Nearby, Kate coughs and says she doesn’t need Victor lecturing her, as she feels bad enough. Victor wants to see Chelsea and tells Kate that she called to borrow the jet without telling him where she was going. Kate reveals that Chelsea left for France yesterday to see Max and Stephanie.
Nicole asks Pete for the check, but Trent says they’re not finished and warns her that he’ll go over to Victor. Nicole dares him to go ahead. He insists that she owes him, but she asserts that she doesn’t owe him a damn thing. “Who gave you a home? Who fed and clothed you and bankrolled your education? If it weren’t for me, you’d still be on the streets,” he rehashes. Nicole sarcastically thanks him for trashing her self-esteem. Trent goes over to Victor and introduces himself, asking to have a word with him. Nicole apologizes to Victor for intruding and leads Trent away.
Meanwhile, Morgan questions Philip about his status with Chloe. Philip implies that he and Chloe were never really dating, just “keeping each other company,” so to speak. He reveals that Chloe is dating Lucas now and believes it’s a good match.
Marlena is summoned over to the DiMera mansion by John, who invites her in. John presents her with a hair tie he found in the bathroom, then tells her it’s not a good idea for her to see Trent Robbins. Marlena wonders why he should have any say in who she spends her time with and why he doesn’t like Trent. John says there’s something about Trent that rubs him the wrong way. Marlena reminds John that she pursued him for months, which he liked since it gave him a sense of being in control. She surmises that he doesn’t want her to date anyone, regardless of who it is.
John later rearranges the chess pieces as he assumes that Marlena thinks he’s jealous. “Maybe I just care about you so much I don’t want you to get hurt. Could be as simple as that,” he suggests. Marlena proceeds to leave, but he tells her to wait and assumes she’s just giving up. “I’m not giving you up. I’m letting you go,” she declares. John wishes she wouldn’t do that. Marlena says he should’ve thought about that before he destroyed the disk. John apologizes and regrets not doing things differently. Marlena wonders if he’s saying that because he’s curious about the man he once was or if he just wants to hold onto her. John admits he made a mistake, and unfortunately he can’t go back and fix it. “And Ava Vitali. Was she a mistake?” questions Marlena. John doesn’t even know where Ava is, as he hasn’t heard from her in weeks. Marlena questions if he slept with Ava, even though they are still married. By John’s silence, she assumes that he indeed did bed Ava. “Well now did you or did you not encourage me to see other women?” retorts John. Marlena flashes back to encouraging him to try things out with Ava or whoever else he chooses. He suggests they just start over and throw out the past. Marlena declares that she’s going to think of herself first and put a lot of distance between the two of them. She clarifies that she’s not trying to hurt him, but just doesn’t think they’re very good together anymore.
Outside the pub, Nicole believes Trent was bluffing about telling all to Victor. She deduces that Trent needs her a hell of a lot more than she needs him, since he owes a lot of money. Trent asks what she wants. “For starters, you can give me a divorce, and then maybe we can talk about it,” she replies. Trent insists that he needs the money now. Nicole tells him that he’s out of luck, then walks off. Trent then receives a call from John, who tells him that they have some “issues” to discuss.
