Dearly Departed Husband

By Gwen Morett, About.com

Kate arrives at the hospital to meet Daniel, complaining that he summoned her down there on such a busy day. Daniel finally interrupts a chatty Kate and warns her that she has signs of a serious illness. Kate says she’s feeling pretty good and thinks that whatever she had went away, but Daniel says they still need to do more tests. An annoyed Kate wonders why he asked her to come down there if he doesn’t have a definitive diagnosis. Daniel warns her that there’s something seriously wrong with her, and he intends to keep running tests until he finds out what it is. Kate suggests maybe she’s not even sick and just has a bad cold or nasty allergies. Chelsea arrives and refers to Kate as pathetic for doing whatever she can to keep seeing Daniel.

Chelsea states her refusal to ever forgive Daniel and Kate for sleeping together. Kate reiterates that she and Daniel have explained everything, which was two people reaching out for a little warmth and understanding. “You make sleeping together sound really noble,” quips a bitter Chelsea. Daniel tells Chelsea she’s way out of line. Chelsea whines how she’s the injured party. Kate declares that whatever happened is over. Chelsea questions why Daniel had to call Kate over to the hospital to discuss “the next step,” if things are over. Daniel believes Chelsea owes Kate an apology, but Chelsea disagrees. Kate requests a moment alone with Chelsea. Daniel reluctantly leaves them to talk.

Kate coughs again and Chelsea asks if she’s okay. Kate deduces that she’s not, which is probably why Daniel wants to run some more tests. Chelsea admits that she doesn’t want Kate to be sick. An emotional Kate wishes Chelsea would cut her some slack. She professes that she would never in a million years intend to hurt her, especially after what happened with Billie and Nick. Chelsea asks if Kate has any idea what she did to her. Kate advises her to start thinking about second chances, reminding her that people make mistakes. She asks if Chelsea can get over it and deal with the pain, but Chelsea doesn’t think so and walks off. Chelsea looks at Kate with concern from afar when she starts coughing again. She approaches Kate and implores her to let the doctors check her out. Kate asks her to forgive Daniel and promises not to see him as a patient anymore. An upset Chelsea leaves. Kate tells Daniel that all is not forgiven in regards to Chelsea and implores him to give her the news about her health. “I’m sorry Kate. You have lung cancer,” he gravely reveals.

An unsettled Nicole arrives at the pub and meets E.J., revealing that Victor found out the truth about her marriage to Trent, and now he’s trying to take back his divorce settlement. She complains about “big mouth Bo Brady,” believing that Bo hates her and couldn’t wait to run straight to Victor. She shares how Victor laughed and demanded that she give back her entire settlement, including every cent she had already spent. “I hate that Bo Brady and I hate my dearly departed husband even more,” she mutters. E.J. questions what she means by “dearly departed husband.” Nicole claims that Trent’s on his way out if he isn’t gone already, since the whole world knows he tried to pimp out his own daughter. E.J. refers to this as disgusting. Nicole is amused that Trent's academic colleagues will soon know his ex was a porn star. She wonders how she’s going to keep her “hard-earned cash” from Victor, insisting that she’s a victim in the situation. E.J. can’t promise anything, but believes they should stay positive. This makes Nicole smile.

E.J. later brings Nicole a drink. She affirms that she would do anything to keep Victor from taking back her money, rehashing how her marriage to him was no picnic. E.J. suggests they go with the angle that she had no idea Trent didn’t go through with the divorce. “I thought ignorance of the law was no excuse,” responds a confused Nicole. E.J. implies that a beautiful blond on the stand has been known to turn the heart of many judges. Nicole assures him that she’ll shed all kinds of tears if she’s asked about her marriage to Trent in court. E.J. caresses her arm as she berates herself for being stupid back then. He tries to assure her that nobody will blame her for running away, since she went from an abusive father to an abusive husband. He cautions Nicole that if Trent decides to take the stand, he’ll try and paint her as an opportunistic user. “I wouldn’t worry about that if I were you. Trent’s not gonna make it to the stand,” she implies. E.J. wonders if Nicole did something she shouldn’t have, like pay him off. Nicole suggests not worrying about Trent and runs off complaining that she’s sick.

Caroline comes to the cemetery to visit Grandpa Shawn’s grave and immediately senses that she’s being watched. She professes how much she misses Shawn and wishes how he was still there, especially since Max needs his real father. She expresses how angry Trent makes her, admitting how terrified she is every time he comes near Max. “That’s why I took care of him tonight. We don’t have to worry about Trent bothering Max anymore,” she alludes.

At Chez Rouge, Maggie greets Bo and Hope, who are meeting Steve and Kayla for an early dinner. Maggie relays how she heard the press conference on TV and assumes that Hope is the new police commissioner. Hope reveals that she turned the mayor down, which Steve and Kayla overhear. The gang is overjoyed when Bo admits that he decided to go after the police commissioner job. Maggie leads them to their table for a celebration.

The foursome sit down, where Kayla marvels how Hope would’ve made a great commissioner. Hope admits she would’ve loved the challenge, but the job would’ve completely consumed her, which she believes wouldn’t have been fair to Bo or Ciara. Kayla jokingly reminds Bo that if he becomes commissioner, he can’t just put his head down and forget about his wife and family. Bo admits he’s happier being down on the streets chasing criminals and didn’t even want the job in the first place. Steve questions why he changed his mind. Bo explains that Abe, Hope, and Roman ganged up on him, and he feels he owes it to the city.
