DAYS Writers Fired
This shocking move comes at a time when ironically negotiations between the WGA and AMPTP are proceeding so well in the writers' strike that the three-month old strike could end very soon. This Saturday, February 9, the WGA will gather in Los Angeles and New York to hear a contract proposal with Hollywood studios.
As previously mentioned, former One Life to Live Head Writer Dena Higley is filling in as DAYS's head writer during the writers' strike. Higley previously served as DAYS's head writer in early 2003. Whether she'll take over as permanent head writer after the strike ends remains to be seen, but there is wide speculation that she will indeed take over the reins as head writer.
In a touching and heartfelt blog, former staff writer Tom Casiello expresses his thoughts and feelings of sadness on his myspace.com page over being let go. This man is a true class act, as he has nothing but kind words to say about the characters he fell in love with, about the people he came in contact with, and what he truly wanted to give the fans during his time at DAYS. Xavier Toups from Soap Opera Network had the fortunate opportunity to interview Tom as well, in which he discusses his past writing experiences, the DAYS storylines, and what he hopes for the future.
This sudden turn of events has been a hotly debated topic with differing views and perspectives by fans. Some feel as though this is the beginning of the end of DAYS, wheras others feel as though this is the best move DAYS could've possibly made, noting how the storylines have been moving at a much faster pace and how the show overall has never been better. This is a hotly debated topic in the Days of Our Lives Fans Forum. In the meantime, I'll continue to keep you updated on the latest developments concerning this latest move.

Great! The show has improved since the writers went on strike. Maybe the ‘powers that be’ FINALLY realized that viewers are coming back since the show has improved and want to keep it going.
I THINK CONDAY WANT TO DIG HIS OWN GRAVE HES KILLING OUR FAV SOAP ITWAS GETTING SO GOOD BACK WHERE IT BELONGS ED SCOTT NEED TO GO BACK TO OLD AND THE USELESS!!!!
This show must go on, strike or not, to many people are following this soap like their own way of life. I hope we will see this show in HD as it deserves to be. Please carry on with Days over 2009 and like we say in french ‘’ Continuons c’est bien parti en bibitte ‘’.
Merci
Thanks for the update about the writers. I can’t believe they are getting tid of the whole crew.
I watched todays episode and it was sad and a great episode. I agreed with what Hope said about Sami. I was wondering why Sami didn’t get to see Colleen. Shirley Jones was great as Colleen.
I also wonder why they have to write in a woman from Steve’s past now that Kayla is pregnant. I think they should let Steve and Kayla be together and happy. Y hope this new woman doesn’t try to come between Steve and Kayla.
I”m not one who want wants to see people lose their jobs. But someone at Days are not writing but just rewriting. That Stefano script has gone on for years and when ever Stefano wasn’t on the show was at it best. It has pass time for the burning of that storyline.
I now hope Days can have peace, and find it way back into reality. Giving its viewers back the Salem before Stefano.
I have been loving Days recently in a way I haven’t in years. I’ve been a long time fan and the pace has been great & finally getting some reveals in a timely manner instead of continuing to drag them out for years has been a great gift. I worried during the strike the story would lag, instead I feel it’s better than ever.
I can’t believe they are getting rid of Billie, Belle and Shawn D. They make such a good couple and so many story lines from them and Phillip and Chole. Also, are they writing off Lucas. This is unreal. I have watched Days for about 30 years and glad the answers to Stephano are out and he is gone.
I think this is a brilliant move by Corday. I have loved Days more during this writers’ strike than I have in the last several years. The stories are now written such that I can’t wait to tune in each day; I haven’t felt this excited about Days in years! I am thrilled with Days’ decisions to let go of Billie, Kate, and Grandpa Shawn. Though I liked all of them, I would love to see a mature storyline with Victor (John Aniston is a PHENOMENAL ACTOR!!) and Caroline. With Bo’s health problems as a front-burner storyline, this will obviously be a chance for the two of them to draw closer to each other, especially with Grandpa Shawn’s death. Everything about these storylines is fresh and exciting and absolutely fabulous! Well done, Days!! Well done!!!!
I’m back to recording the show again if I know I won’t be home to see it. For a while I didn’t care if I watched it or not and I’ve been watching from the beginning. The show is back to being GREAT. I’m just worried about the Bo and Hope story line and where it’s going with Bo being sick. They are my FAVORITE couple and I would absolutely hate if I didn’t see them every day. Keep up the good work.
Praise the Lord! Someone finally woke up! Hooray for the new writers. I hope the other writers find work real soon. I don’t want anyone to loose their job. It seemed like no one wanted to put their heads together and come up with a good storyline. The episodes drug on and on with no ending and lots of repeats, nothing creative. I have watched for over 40 years and have held on so now I am looking forward to each day.
I love Days of Our Lives since the first day it started, sometimes it was boring but I kept watching, my two daughters are into watching it. Yes there has to be changes I agree but sometimes the firing of these people shouldn’t have happen. I feel that if things don’t improve with the writers deciding who should stay or go, you will lose your loyal fans, you have growing young people working to play these parts and yet it doesn’t seem to matter. I have love your show for 45 years and I look so forward to watching it.
Finally I get excited to see the show each day and see what is going on. A lot of my friends gave up on the show because it dragged on forever. So I hope they keep the writers that have been doing the scripts that move along and keep it exciting to wonder what tomorrow will bring. I’ve watch for 42 years.
DAYS has been GREAT since the writer’s strike. Storylines are fast paced and exciting again. I find myself liking all the storylines again and not fast-forwarding through ones I didn’t like (although there is too much Sami!!!). I have faithfully watched DAYS for 30+ years and enjoy it now more than ever. Thanks for bringing John Black and Victor back. Keep up the good writing and the viewers will return!!
As much as I respect the work of Hogan Scheffer and his team, they never seemed to fit in with the “Days” family. I honestly hope that the new team will return to the roots of the show, and feature our beloved characters.
I have watched Days for 25+ years and now think since the writer strike the show is as good as it as ever been, please let Days continue past 2009 and beyond, my Husband even watches it with me and he has been an avid fan for 10 plus years and he thinks it is great we find ourselves not being able to wait until 1 o’clock the following day!
