Former DAYS Head Writer Joins The Young and the Restless

Friday May 23, 2008
According to Soap Opera Digest Online and other sources, Former DAYS Head Writer Hogan Sheffer has officially been named co-head writer at CBS’s daytime drama The Young and the Restless. He will co-write the soap with Maria Arena Bell.

As fans recall, Hogan joined DAYS as head writer in July of 2006. He managed to bring DAYS out of a ratings slump, but the boost was only temporary. Although he garnered much praise for his storytelling, he also gained criticism from fans for dragging certain storylines out too long and for favoring certain characters. In a shocking move, Hogan and his other team of writers were dismissed in February of 2008 during the 100-day Writers’ Strike of 2007-2008. It was later revealed that Hogan took the financial-core status during the strike so he could continue to work on the show. However, he was not allowed to continue contributing to the show during this time.

Before serving as head writer at DAYS, Hogan was hired as head writer on CBS’s daytime drama As the World Turns from June 0f 2000 until March of 2005, where he and his writing team earned four Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series.

Good luck to Hogan Sheffer with his new position at the number one-rated daytime drama.

I fell in love with Days in December 06, then was dumped emotionally in the spring when all the characters changed and the storylines became so boring. I tried watching for a month or two from duty, then gave up. This week I saw Hogan Sheffer’s name on the Y&R credits, and was ecstatic. Because that’s where I’d switched my loyatly to after Days went south.
