Days of Our Lives Receives Two Directors Guild of America Award Nominations

Saturday January 10, 2009
The Directors Guild of America (DGA) recently announced the 2008 nominees for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Television, Documentaries and Commercials. Congratulations goes out to Days of Our Lives for receiving two nominations in the category of Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Daytime Serial.

Noel Maxam received a nomination in Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Daytime Serial for DAYS episode #10763, which was the February 15, 2008 plane crash episode, and also the episode which I named as the best Friday cliffhanger in my "Best Moments of 2008" commentary. Mr. Maxam's directorial team for this episode included associate directors Joseph Lumer, Michael J. Fiamingo, Krista Cremidan, Lugh Powers, Mason Dickson, and Marius Darrow III. His stage managers were Francesca Bellini-DeSimone and Stuart W. Howard. The production associates for this unforgettable 2008 episode were Sara Peterson and Denise White-Serrette.

This is Noel Maxam's second DGA nomination, with his first nomination in this category back in 1999 for The Young and the Restless.

Herb Stein also received a nomination in Outstanding Directorial Achievement in a Daytime Serial for DAYS episode #10764, which was the February 18, 2008 episode in the aftermath of the plane crash. Mr. Stein's directorial team for this episode included associate directors Joseph Lumer and Michael J. Fiamingo, stage managers Francesca Bellini-DeSimone and Stuart W. Howard, and production associates Sara Peterson, Denise White-Serrette, and Krista Cremidan.

This is Mr. Stein's third DGA nomination. He was previously nominated back in 2005 for this same category for DAYS episode #10090 with co-director Albert Arr. This particular episode aired on June 28, 2005, when Frankie Brady saw Jennifer Devereaux for the first time in years, Max and Chelsea heated things up, and Mimi Lockhart was in jail. Mr. Stein was also nominated and won the award in this same category back in 1999 for DAYS episode #8557 with co-director Roger W. Inman. This particular episode aired on June 2, 1999 when Lucas had second thoughts about letting Sami die for a crime which he committed.

Congratulations goes out to Noel Maxam and Herb Stein for their nominations and achievements and best of luck in winning the award. The 61st Annual DGA Awards Dinner will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California.
