Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Arleen Sorkin is returning to the show for a brief run in May as Calliope. The actress reportedly emailed Leann Hunley (Anna) and said, "You have to work with me. My brain is Teflon." She reported to the set on Monday, March 8.
Longtime DAYS fans recall that Sorkin played the wacky fashion designer Calliope Jones Bradford from 1984 until 1990 and made brief returns in 1992 and in 2006. She first arrived in Salem and worked for Liz Curtis in her clothing business and designed a dress for Anna DiMera, whom she became best friends with. Calliope was known for her wild hats and extraordinary wardrobe. She fell in love with Eugene Bradford and married him on December 31, 1985. Eventually, Calliope left Salem after hosting a daytime TV talk show and turned her show over to Jennifer Horton Devereaux.
Sorkin was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 1988 and in 1989 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She also won three Soap Opera Digest awards, two which recognized her outstanding comic performance. Many fans agree that Eugene and Calliope definitely brought much comic relief to the show. I am one fan who will definitely look forward to seeing her again.

I am thrilled that Arlene is coming back. With all the butchering the show has gone through it is way over due for some good actors to return. Get rid of that cutsie highshool group and get down to some good work
YEAH ! Some good news about the show for once. She was one of my favorites back on the 80s as well.
I wonder though if she is one of the characters coming back for Alice’s funeral or if she is going to stay longer. I would like to see Days get back Marlena for Alice’s funeral.
I love Calliope and I’m so glad she will be back on Days, at least for a while. Hopefully she and Anna will have a storyline together. Arlene and Leann are always so entertaining and fun to watch.
Yea Callopie! I love her! I am so gald she is coming back…Arlene Sorkin is awesome!
So glad that Callohpie will be coming back. Let us keep herin Salem.
I agree, I am looking forward to her return. I have missed the good ole days of Day’s. I have watch since Julie Seaforth Hayes started with Days. All of the exits of mainstream Salem is killing the show. It has gotten so dull I have cut down if I see the show. Get it together writers.
I am looking forward to Arlene returning to Day’s as an fan of way over 40 yrs. Please keep Leann on as Anna, the storyline is so exciting!!!! Please do not bring back the old characters, you must have gotten rid of them for a reason, Marlena and John were bore city and I was glad to see all of them go. Sidney is just adorable, I hope Sami and Rafe get to raise her, what a beautiful little girl. send EJ to jail where he belongs, I love Stefano and Kate’s schemes, keep up the good work writers!!!
I THINK THE SHOW IS SO STUPID AND THERE GETTING RID OF ALL THE OLD ACTORS AND REPLACEING THEM WITH WANNA BE ACTORS YOU CAN TELL WHEN A SHOW IS THRU WHEN THAT HAPPEN AND THE CONSTANT USE OF OMG I FEEL LIKE IM IN CHURCH EVERY DAY AT ONE SAMI IS THE WORST SHE CAN BREATH WITH OUT SAY IT AND THIS CRAP WITH THE BABY IS SICK BRING BACK JOHN BLACK ATLEAST IT HAD ACTION IN IT THEN AND ALL THIS CRAP ABOUT THE OLD SHOWS LIKE THE MUSTER ADDRESS BEING USED IN A SKID OF WHEN NICOLE WAS LOOKING FOR THE LETTER YOU KNOW AFTER ALICA DIED THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE LAST SHOW
I’ve always loved Arleen as Calliope! Now if they could just get eccentric Eugene back, they could have a whole new story line. Unfortunately, he’s probably too pricey for Days now that he’s been so successful in his career as “Q” from Star Trek voyager and guest starring in so many other shows.
Marlena may be too pissed for having been so abruptly and summarily dismissed after all those years! I loved Marlena and John, and I miss them. Sometimes I’m actually surprised I still watch the show after all the dismissals, etc. The latest, Bryan Dattilo, went over like a lead balloon with me, too.
