James Scott (EJ) fans can finally relax. After extended negotiations, the actor and Days of Our Lives have come to terms on a new contract.
According to Soap Opera Digest, Scott has re-signed with the NBC soap for one year. The new pact will keep him in Salem until April 2013.
On September 29, news leaked that Scott and Days had been unable to come to terms on a new deal and that he would be leaving the show when his contract expired in May 2012. However, hours later, Scott released a statement noting he wished to continue with the soap and, that "in light of recent reassurances," was "optimistic" of his future with Days.
Scott joined the soap in 2006 and has been a front and center character ever since.

I knew that James Scott would re sign with Days. Although I thought it would not have happened till around April but at least the deal is done and everyone can move on.

I’m ecstatic that James has a new contract. He’s kept me watching Days through the tough times of these past two years. Now I’m looking forward to many more outstanding performances he’ll be delivering!
I am ecstatic that James Scott and Days have come to an understanding and he has resigned! He is my favorite actor on Days and I look forward to the days when he is on screen. He has brought the character of EJ to life and his facial expressions, mannerisms and body language convey EJ and his feelings, wants and desires to those of us who spend an hour a day in Salem. Salem wouldn’t be the same with out EJ DiMera and James Scott.
I am ECSTATIC! i am SO happy James Scott has resigned! he’s a brilliant and talented actor, and days of our lives would suffer dearly if he were to leave, he’s carried this show thru the last two years of garbage! He has managed to give EJ a heart and soul, and more importantly – layers, through the horrendous writing, and production of the last few years. He’s an Asset to days, and absolute GOLD as an actor.
Days is very lucky to have him, and this tells me at least they know that much!

So glad that the brilliant actor James Scott is staying on DOOL. The show needs wonderful and talented actors such as James to stay on the air. He has shown that no matter the material given to him that he can turn it into brilliance. No other male actor on this show has been able to do that! Thank You James for being a truly professional actor you are greatly appreciated. Now how about uniting EJ & Sami for once!! That is a Rhett & Scarlett story right there!!
This is by far the best news I’ve heard all day! Love James, he’s an amazing actor and brings so much to the show! Now the next best thing I’d love to hear is that EJ and Sami have been united.

I’m thrilled to hear James has negotiated a new contract. Days is in real flux right now, a make and break situation and whatever you think of EJ, the thing is, everyone has an opinion on him which is what a failing genre needs – buzz.
I’m really hopeful the new writers can set up about writing stories worthy of Mr. Scott’s talent at long last. For too long we’ve been subjected to subpar/non existent story telling on Days for just about all of the characters and I look forward to seeing the likes of JS have some real meaty material to work with again.
And of course, I’d like for there to finally be a real and adult exploration of his relationship with Sami, once she is restored to her feisty self.
So happy to hear James Scott is staying with Days. He is a wonderful actor and I hope they give him a good story to showcase his amazing talent. I would love to see him have more scenes with the beautiful Alison Sweeney. They are magic together. But just as long as he’s on Days I am happy. I love James Scott.
Days are so lucky to have a actor with his caliber and is there anyone who can capture new viewers, it is James Scott.
I am so relieved that he’s not leaving soon. I feel that EJ hasn’t been himself and I didn’t want him to leave without having the proper send off. A lot of his fans are bitter that the show is not listening to the die-hard fans. For him to leave on top of other favorites being gone, would mean the end of the show. He is the show. No one in the cast works harder and cares more about his/her character than James Scott.
I am very happy to learn that James Scott’s contract has been extended. Mr. Scott is one of the finest actors to ever grace a soap opera set. His portrayal of EJ is pivotal to many of the show’s storylines. He and his co-star Ms. Sweeney combine to make one of the most intriguing and memorable pairing/storyline’s in the history of the genre.
SO HAPPY JAMES IS STAYING! I wouldn’t be watching DOOL EJ wasn’t on my screen! LOVE YOU JAMES!!!!

I am so excited and relieved James finally signed! I feel he is a huge asset to DOOL. It really bums me out when vets and really popular actors are let go and new people are brought in. So glad I can say one of my all time faves didn’t have to go yet!

I appreciate that Days and James Scott were able to come to terms on his contract. The show really wouldn’t be the same without him. Of course it would go on…it did without Deidre, Drake, Patrick and Christie, but can we honestly say it was as good without them? Absolutely not!
I realize that some viewers don’t care for the character of EJ, but even with the outrageous scripts given, James Scott really worked to make the story palatable. How else can you explain being nominated for an Emmy two years in a row?
It would be nice to see scripts that show EJ as the grey character he is…not quite Stefano, but also not lily white either (I would say a Brady, but they haven’t been lily white of late either!). That’s what makes this character to likeable…the internal battle between being good for his children and ultimately, Samantha and being bad to keep up with the Dimera legacy.
Hopefully, a real intense conversation between EJ and Samantha will take place to really hash out what they can do to be better parents to their children and work towards a true, strong relationship. This is what keeping James Scott on the show affords…the ability for these two amazing characters work their way towards being a family with their children. EJ and Sami never had that chance with the Brady’s and past relationships interfering in cultivating a true relationship.
The long-suffering EJami fans will wait until the EJ and Sami story is told, worked out and blossoms into the next Days supercouple!
I am so happy and relieved. I have always enjoyed James portrayal of EJ DiMera. No matter how bizarre the sl twists, James finds a way to make EJ worth watching. I’m also excited to see what Marlene and Darrell have in mind for EJ.

Soooo pleased to hear he re-signed! For me, at least, Days wouldn’t have been the same without him. James Scott has been the only draw for me lately. I am hoping with the reset, that some of the crap from the last year will finally be hashed out between Sami and EJ. I can see the potential of these scenes and it would be so compelling in the hands of James, and Ali. I look forward to seeing this fascinating character of EJ grow and hopefully a true relationship between Ejami develop!
Interesting how people react to certain actors/characters.
I may be the only person but I really don’t care so much if ANY actor leaves. I only care about good acting and good scripts. If EVERY actor on Days (or on any other TV show) leaves and all characters were completely replaced, it would be fine with me, as long as they were replaced with excellent actors with excellent scripts/storylines.
I don’t get personally/emotionally involved and look to it as a business only that at best I hope all business dealings are fair and everyone is happy with the outcome.
So I’m neutral on this one. But if it made James Scott happy, then I’m happy for him.

It was the SMART thing to do. There’s a lot of actors out there out of a job. To have a soap is a good thing at this point in time. Any actor can be replaced…especially on a soap opera.
So, the greedy boy got more money. Nice for us poor folks who still have to wonder if we can afford a new pair of slippers wearing old ones that have holes in the bottoms.

I was hoping that he would not resign and go. I really tired of all the evil things that he gets away with. It would be different if he was a decent person. But he is just an ass and I sorry that he is staying. I was so hoping Days was
going to go back to the old way of telling the stories. EJ has been evil since the day he started on the show. Why do they need him.
I like the actor James Scott, but, in all honesty, I am bored to death with the same storyline with him from the first day he arrived in Salem.
Whether it’s running for mayor,now, or doing a drug transaction.. it all seems to be the very same acting.
Doesn’t he ever just relax.. and wear regular clothes? He always is dressed the same with the same evil persona. BORING!
So when I read the posts about how happy people are that he has re-signed ( and he is just as fortunate to have Days want him in this fading soap world as Days is to have him) .. I do realize why some people want him to leave. Hopefully, new writers can breathe some life into this character of EJ.
James Scott has been a wonderful addition to the DOOL’S cast. I’m really glad he has resigned, since he & Nicole make quite a steamy pair, it is fun to see them in scenes together.
The new format is good to see. Now if they could just update Maggie’s 1960’s “farm-house” to a bit of a today look.

This show isn’t about the Hortons, it is about the Brady’s, Demeria’s and now the Black….Leave town it wasn’t that great before they left I am sure it is not going to be any better now.
He may be a good actor but what was the reason the debated on not signing a new contract? More money? In this economy be glad you have a job. One can be replaced.
