It's over. Chandler Massey is off Days of Our Lives. The actor taped his last scenes as Will Horton on Friday, August 23.
"Thank you, thank you, and thank you. It has been such an amazing journey, and I am so grateful to have shared these four years with you all," tweeted Massey. "As I move forward from Days, I will never forget the laughs we shared, the tears we shed, & the love we spread. Time to get edumacated!"
Massey told gaystarnews.com that NBC and Days agreed to let him out of his four-year contract early, so he could focus on school and pursue other acting opportunities. The pact was set to expire in December.
He also revealed that the soap plans to recast the role of Will.
"I think it's a good move," said Massey. "I'm biased, because I fell in love with Will and Sonny, and I want Will and Sonny to be together."
Massey, who joined Days in 2009, first revealed that he was planning to leave the soap at the 2013 Daytime Emmys, after he snared his second Younger Actor in a Drama Series trophy.
In a statement released to Soap Opera Digest, a Days spokesperson noted that while the show was "disappointed" to lose a talent like Massey, it supported him in his future endeavors. In addition, it confirmed that a recast was forthcoming.
However, Massey's pal, actor Charlie Sheen, offered another spin on his young friend's soap exit; suggesting that he may have been fired from Days on Twitter. Sheen also tweeted, "NOW his career begins! he's a winner. period the end. his TWO EMMYS speak to that fact loud and clear."
