Chandler Massey Off Days of Our Lives

By August 23, 2013

Follow me on:

chandler masseyIt's over. Chandler Massey is off Days of Our Lives. The actor taped his last scenes as Will Horton on Friday, August 23.

"Thank you, thank you, and thank you. It has been such an amazing journey, and I am so grateful to have shared these four years with you all," tweeted Massey. "As I move forward from Days, I will never forget the laughs we shared, the tears we shed, & the love we spread. Time to get edumacated!"

Massey told gaystarnews.com that NBC and Days agreed to let him out of his four-year contract early, so he could focus on school and pursue other acting opportunities. The pact was set to expire in December.

He also revealed that the soap plans to recast the role of Will.

"I think it's a good move," said Massey. "I'm biased, because I fell in love with Will and Sonny, and I want Will and Sonny to be together."

Massey, who joined Days in 2009, first revealed that he was planning to leave the soap at the 2013 Daytime Emmys, after he snared his second Younger Actor in a Drama Series trophy.

In a statement released to Soap Opera Digest, a Days spokesperson noted that while the show was "disappointed" to lose a talent like Massey, it supported him in his future endeavors. In addition, it confirmed that a recast was forthcoming.

However, Massey's pal, actor Charlie Sheen, offered another spin on his young friend's soap exit; suggesting that he may have been fired from Days on Twitter. Sheen also tweeted, "NOW his career begins! he's a winner. period the end. his TWO EMMYS speak to that fact loud and clear."

I wish Chandler the best and I LOVE YOU Chandler <3 <3 <3

So he REALLY is gay and not just portraying one? He reported to GAY star news and he fell in love with Will and Sonny, so it doesn’t sound like an ACT to me

NO , Chandler Masssey is not gay… i read both Freddie and Chandler are straight…. only do characters on Days of Our Lives….

(5) BLONDIE says:

BOOHOO Chandler I hate to see you go you were so good I am not sure how a re-cast will work. If they hadn’t brought in the Bryan character as a friend he might have been good for the Will part, you will be missed. I saw you on TV when you were in Columbus, Ohio for the Gay Pride Parade and the Red,White and you kept saying no you weren’t leaving then I saw the commercial you did and I thought well maybe he is. You will be missed.

I’m so sad to see him go, best of luck, don’t stay gone for too long, please come back when you are ready to be back.

A replacement for Will is better than killing him off, at least he can always come back. We will have to get used to the new Will, at least Sonny and Will stay together and continue their wonderful love life together.

We still don’t know about Gabi, if she will be replaced. I don’t think Will will want to be away from her daughter, he will want to be there for her always and be a good parent, not dysfunctional like he was raised. Sammi was always and still is a good mother to Will, but he has been going left to right his whole childhood, for sure he will want Ari to have a good stable home with her parents in her life.

: ( : ( : ( I am about over it myself, will leaving, chad dying, and I hate seeing Sami in jail. still hating theresa. UGH ! will probably still keep on watching though. Also, I hated to see Vargas go. : ( : ( I was wondering what was going on with him and and the writers had to put him up wth theresa. UGH. I loved Fridays episode. I wish Hope could have put Theresa in jail or really sent her to rehab. UGH. Also who was that little girl that had kristens test ??? Was that Sydney or Ali ???? I had forgotten what those little girls looked like they haven’t shown them in so long. lol.

I have watched Days since 1966. I was excited t-when TPTB decided to bring back John and Marlene. But since they are never seen it would have been just as well for them not to. The spark has gone out of this show. Will and Sonny were the bright spot. Why is it every time the writers can’t think of anything they do some bad to Sami. Very redundant.

August 26, 2013 at 8:19 pm
(11) LoriB says:

So Charlie Sheen is suddenly an authority? How can you be fired when you’ve already given notice? Which, by the way, while I have loved Chandler’s portrayal of Will,, I thought it was unprofessional and tacky that he announced he was leaving at the Emmys, Emmy in hand, while the show was winning Best Drama.
Oftentimes when a person says they’re leaving they are told to leave early, at the convenience of the employer. I’m thrilled that they found another Will and hope he’s terrific. Corday said they wouldn’t recast and the part is way too important to not to.

August 26, 2013 at 8:23 pm
(12) Judi says:

Glad the character Will will be recast. Soaps do it all the time. They should do,it with Bo, so Reckell sees he can be replaced as all actors can be. Ok writers the kiddies have gone back to school, let’s throw the delinquents in rehab jail and move on with the adults and help Jen get some backbone. What a wuss of a mother and who would want this weak woman as a love? Geesh

(15) Vicki says:

Well – recasts sometimes work out just fine – but Chandler was and will always be remembered as the first Will. Good luck to his ‘ edumacated” journey …I’m sure he’ll excel at this, too. And I’m sure we’ll see his handsome face in the public eye again someday.. God speed, Chandler.

(16) Sharon says:

The way Jennifer jacks Daniel around, it’s no wonder he’s about to explode. Reminds me of a very old song ‘First you say you will, then you say you won’t…”
Jennifer is in for a very rude awakening. Her son is a full blown drug dealer/criminal and belongs behind bars before he hurts someone.
Jack is spinning in his grave.
I love Chandler and his wonderful talent playing Will Horton. We’ve seen him grow the last couple of years and he truly shines. So does Sonny and I love their story and I don’t want to see the writer’s ‘un-do’
them. I guess I will get used to his replacement. I actually liked Bo’s replacement (Robert Kelker-Kelly) better than I liked Peter. Hope is holding her own but do something to wrap this up – make him dead or replace him so we don’t keep doing the phone thing.
Kristen will never change. What she did to Eric is deplorable and Brady might try to kill her when he finds out – that is if there’s anything left of him at all!
If Sami turns on EJ, well I’m so stunned that she would even think of doing that that I can’t think of anything to say about it. It would reduce him to rubble probably and open the door for Stefano to take the reins back of his empire. Look out Salem.
BTW, I’m a nearly 70 yr old lady who has watched DOOL nearly since its inception.
Have a good day all.

methinks Chandler left his role because he isn’t gay, and althogh he loves a challenge, subconsciously, it WAS a challenge and he was acting but ya know… lines get blurred and he needed to flee the scene before he got typecasted.

but bravo to young mr massey. take your emmy’s … and dont let the dust from the door… as you make your exit, stage right.. tarnish those emmy’s.

i wish him much love. Peace CM.

(20) Angela says:

Only DOOL would let go of a mega-talent like this kid! It goes to prove that they let the good ones go and keep the awful ones, like the Jennifers, Hopes, Julies, Johns, etc cuz they can’t act so no one else wants them. They just grew into older roles cuz they stayed there long enough to rot and make a bundle. Will, please take some of these annoying talentless folk with you! I hate Sammi but she has at least learned to act a bit since she’s been played the same part practically since birth! I’m so sick of all the air time they give to Jennifer, who has all of 2 expressons! They have no range and that sickening romp with the donuts on bookclub night proved it I was embarassed for them all! THEY CAN’T ACT!!! Good luck Chandler Massey, you will be deservedly missed, you don’t deserve to be around these misfits!

August 27, 2013 at 2:59 am
(21) Debra says:

Aw-w come on Angela. The WRITERS were adding depth of character for Jennifer and then they dropped the ball. The book club scene was CHARACTER ASSASSINATION not bad acting. It was ridiculously funny but it gave every character there a kick in the pants. No respect or dignity there. This is typical of the younger generation of today. No MORALS OR RESPECT AND WANT TO CHANGE EVERYTHING SO THEY GET AWAY WITH ANYTHING. This country is in bad shape morally and the soap reflects the ridiculous STUPIDITY of the WRITERS.

Ummm Anonymous (no time to type all your dumb “mmmm’s): Yes, playing gay will get you typecast. Look what happened to Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Heath Ledger, Daniel Radcliffe, Julianne Moore. Their careers were destroyed, right? Such ignorance.
By all accounts Chandler is straight, enrolled in school and planning to live in the dorms this fall and spend next semester abroad in China.
Live in the real world.

(30) Deb says:

I think Chandler Massey is really talented and, hopefully, there will be more roles out there for him either in prime time or movies. DOOL didn’t “let him go” . He said it plainly at the Daytime Emmys that he was leaving to go back to school. I also was kind of surprised he put it out there right then. I don’t know about the recasting of him. It doesn’t seem to have worked in the past when a character was very ingrained in viewer’s minds for quite a long time. I can still remember how that was years ago when they recast Roman (who was originally played by Wayne Northrup). That’s how long I have been watching. I’ll never forget the day I called the DOOL set (don’t remember how I got the number) and Wayne answered the phone! I couldn’t believe it. He was just leaving for the day, and he was so gracious and down to earth. I guess he rode off into the sunset never to be seen again. Of course the actor that replaced him has now been on for years, but he bore no resemblance at all to the original Roman. It’s the same with Bo/Peter. When an actor portrays a character for so many years it’s just hard to look at someone else who doesn’t look or sound anything like the other person — yet here they are acting opposite someone they supposedly have been in love with for years. One last thing — I am sick, sick, sick to death of Jennifer and Daniel fighting because she is the most in denial woman/Mother I have ever seen about her stupid, irritating, juvenile-delinquent son!! I think I dislike him more than any other character that’s ever been on Days. No successful, good-looking doctor (who probably has women running after him) would keep begging and running after someone that can’t even put her own son in his place. Also, as I remember someone else commenting once — why does a successful doctor who (apparently) can do any kind of surgery anywhere, anytime — live in a little dinky apartment?

(31) Snook says:

I wish Chandler the best and will miss him a lot. He was not the first to portray Will because his character was aged from a child to a young adult and I think two other actors did those earlier parts. As for Gabi, I like her but she has lost it since she and her ex slept together. I hope she doesn’t lose it and that Rafe can give her some guidance. Also Kate. I am sick of this JJ/Jennifer/Daniel storyline. It’s past time for Jen to see her son for what he is and trying to do to her life. Daniel is the best thing for her. Writers PLEASE our pain and end this plot. I hate to see Jen so gullible and stupid where JJ is concerned. How could she think taking a break from Daniel would solve JJ’s adolescant behavior.

August 29, 2013 at 2:29 pm
(32) Anne says:

I wish Chandler Massey well. He seemed to be playing Will a bit “goofy” lately, so I guess it is time for him to move on. I hope that Freddy Smith gets to act with a new Will who makes the transition seamless. Some of the new characters (JJ, Theresa) have clunky, bumpy runway takeoffs and have been cringeworthy. So, good luck to the “new” Will, whomsoever he may be. Freddy will make his job easy-he is one of the best characters and best actors on the show.

I really hate that all the young great actors are leaving Days of our lives!!! I have been watching since I can remember from age 5! I hope that both of them just take a break away and come back! I do wish them the best of luck :(

August 30, 2013 at 11:28 am
(35) Deb says:

I wonder if the writers are just trying to get on our nerves with all of these actors/actresses that are just absolutely fast-forward worthy! We all seem to agree — JJ, his long-haired friend, Theresa, etc. As I have said before, Chandler is a good actor but I know what you mean, Joanne, about the smirk and, as Anne said, acting “goofy”. I know he is just following the script though. So many times, however, these daytime actors leave for greener pastures only to find that there’s not much out there for them. Susan Lucci is one of the few of late that has been able to do this, but she has been around for a long time and for years she did TV movies that were shown in primetime while she was still doing AMC. Of course years ago a lot of now famous actors and actresses got their start in daytime — but you don’t see that much anymore. I don’t mean to be crude but I am tired of the gay storyline, and seeing two men with their hairly legs entertwined in bed just doesn’t do it for me personally so, in that regard, I’m not sorry to see Chandler/Will go because since the storyline has evolved with him being gay he can’t go back to being straight so ON THIS SHOW he is typecast now.

(36) Lisa says:

Loved, loved, loved Chandler!! I am a third generation watcher of DOOL. I remember watching the show at the age of 5 years old. That has almost been 40 yrs. The chemistry between him and Freddie was undeniable. No matter who the get to replace him it will never be the same. They were definitely a super couple. I have never seen a better chemistry between two people. Any actor can act but true chemistry between actors or actresses do not happen that often. The reason everyone loves Will and Sonny so much was because of the true connection that Freddie and Chandler had with each other. So what ever Days Executives were trying to do with this sudden change. They left a lot of disappointed fans. This is a soap I have loved for many years and have fond memories of. I really hope they get the message. After the way this whole thing went down. I do not have much love for them or the show any more. I still love Chandler and Freddie. I will definitely follower their careers. They are both awesome and I think they both had real love and respect for each other as fellow actors that is why Will and Sonny was so popular. If they think either one of them could be replaced so easily they are very delusional. It is great to know that both of them loved Will and Sonny so much. Love you Chandler, can’t wait to see what the future holds for you, now go get, “edumacated”

sorry about chandler massey leaving..give the new guy a chance..we will see if he can pull it off ..remember the first actress who played nicoles sister taylor.. she was beautiful and i thought her chemistry with e.j. was authentic..but the actress they quickly replaced her with sucked! no wonder they made her leave town.lets hope the new will can do better. i have been watching dool since 1974..so i think my opinion counts..by the way i dont know what the real bo thinks he can dio better than days.maybe he will end on the hallmark channel movies like patrick mulldoon or god forbid the syfy channel movies.even though i do enjoy the hallmark christmas movies.but every actor or actress cant be meryl streep or brad pitt. but they all need to make money.good luck massey you r no robert redford…yet.

I was raised on this show as a child myself and I hate seeing actors come and go. REALLY hate EJ sleeping with Abigail… I know bad things and mess ups keep the drama going but the show was based on Alice and the Horton love of her and her husband… there really needs to be another stand up couple for the show!!! Sadly, the new Will is just not the same at all. And playing this Nick card is going on too long. The show does need a better story line and some depth. Some reality and personally some more back drops. Not the same park bench and section of town square daily. I mean it is one thing for someone to always be in the hospital but the same back drops everyday gets old even if they are new to some perspective. So many have left that the show is not holding together. More of the cast needs to come back and stay but as humans they have to enjoy their job and the people they work for. I am sure if the actors could talk the viewers would understand why so many cast members leave the show.

I used to like Will but not anymore in the character he is playing now. If it was just hinted at like in some other Soaps (with taste) that would have been more than enough but it has become rather yucky!!!. DOOL has lost the plot. In Life, there is a line not to be crossed. A pity, DOOL has done that. Not interested in DOOL anymore, unless they clean-up the Soap!!! No wonder, most of the older stars are leaving rather than be part of this kind of stuff. Agree with #23 & #33.
