Cast Adrift

By , About.com Guide

Chelsea meets Kate at the pub and apologizes for being late, as she slept through her alarm clock. Kate tells her not to worry about it and reminds her that she’s recovering from major surgery. She then starts to think that breakfast is a bad idea, but Chelsea disagrees and says she needs to get out of the Kiriakis house. Kate notes that Chelsea’s looking pale and asks if she’s alright. Daniel appears and wonders the same thing. Chelsea claims she’s perfectly fine, but Daniel isn’t buying it. Daniel feels her forehead and notes that she’s a little clammy and asks if she’s been running a fever. Chelsea says she’s sweaty because she was running late and had to get there fast. Daniel’s phone rings and he excuses himself. Kate brings her starry-eyed granddaughter back to reality and insists on taking her back home, especially since she promised Billie that she’d take good care of Chelsea. They leave the pub together.

At the Kiriakis mansion, Philip approaches Nicole, who reiterates their deal in which she spies for him and in exchange he gets her a hefty divorce settlement. Nicole questions who she would be spying on. “John Black,” reveals Philip, who wants to know everything he’s up to. Phil refers to John as kind of like Nicole. Nicole remarks how she likes John better already and agrees to the deal as long as Philip gets her everything she deserves. Philip offers to fill her in on the details when he takes her to breakfast. Nicole is fine with that, since she’s starving. “And um, kind of thirsty if you know what I mean,” she implies. “Even in the morning?” asks a bewildered Philip. “Especially in the morning. Now I just need to decide if I’m in a Mimosa mood or a Bloody Mary mood,” replies Nicole.

Paul meets John at the DiMera mansion and wants John to keep his word to help him, mentioning that his life is in shambles right now. John says it will take some time. Paul complains that he doesn’t have time, since his wife’s attorney is breathing down his neck for alimony and child support which he doesn’t have. He continues to blames his troubles on John. John announces that he’s putting Paul back on top and when he’s finished, Paul will be better than ever. He previews that Paul will owe him when he’s done. Paul reminds him of their previous deal, in which John agreed to make his problem go away, and in exchange Paul keeps John’s name out of the mess. John intends to hook Paul up with the kind of life he was enjoying when he was married to “that rich babe.” However, John will expect a little something extra in return.

Philip and Nicole later arrive outside the Brady Pub, where Phil notes that John just went inside. Nicole questions what exactly Philip wants her to do. He encourages her to cozy up to John and make friends. “Use your womanly wiles, you’re good at that,” he points out. Nicole believes that John hates her. Philip suggests that maybe the old John does, but the new one is a blank slate who will go for her. “What about Marlena?” asks Nicole. Philip informs her that’s not happening and tells her to get in and do her thing. Nicole unbuttons her blouse before she proceeds to work her magic. She enters the pub and steals a drink off of the waitress’s tray, then tells the waitress to get another and put it on the “spikey guy’s” bill (John). “Why John Black, it is true. You are alive!” dramatizes Nicole. “Do I know you?” questions John. Nicole introduces herself and implores him not to believe a word of gossip about her. He agrees to let her take a seat. Nicole is fascinated that he doesn’t remember a thing about his past and notes that the “new” John seems much more interesting.

Outside the pub, Morgan approaches a spying Philip and asks him what he’s doing. Philip wonders if Morgan’s overdoing the Southern belle accent. Morgan confronts Philip about being outside lurking while John Black is inside, then asks why he has to drag her father through the battlefield. Philip denies gunning for anyone or dragging anyone. “I may be coy sometimes, but that doesn’t mean I’m stupid. Remember that,” she forewarns. Philip invites her to join him for breakfast so he can prove that he’s not after John, Paul, or anyone else. Morgan says she’d like that, but she’s meeting her father for breakfast. Paul arrives and asks Morgan what’s going on. Morgan claims she’s just saying hi to Philip. Paul implores her to say good-bye to him, since Phil’s supposedly a very busy man. “I was a lot busier before my family’s ships started mysteriously getting held up in customs,” rehashes Philip. Paul claims there were irregularities that called for an investigation. Philip brings up how coincidental it is that Paul’s now being investigated. Paul refuses to have this conversation with Philip and implores his daughter to come inside with him.

As Nicole and John have breakfast together, Nicole admits that she always a had a little crush on the “old” John. John refers to his old persona as boring as hell, which convinces Nicole that he really has changed. Nicole clarifies that he wasn’t boring, but...”A narrow-minded, self-righteous stick-in-the-mud,” interjects John. “I was going to say conservative, but at the same time he was very sexy,” she says seductively, as she throws more compliments at John. Meanwhile, Philip sits nearby as Nicole works her magic. Nicole assumes it must be awfully lonely in the big old house all by himself. John admits he has lots of company at the moment, which includes his “manservant” Rolf. A perplexed Nicole asks if Rolf is “that creepy doctor of Stefano’s.” John reveals that Rolf’s his butler. Nicole pretends to put on a pity party for John, surmising that he must feel “cast adrift." She asks John out on a date to have dinner with him. She coyly promises not to bite, unless he’s into that sort of thing. “Well that might be fun,” he jokes. Nicole believes it will be the most fun either one of them have had in a long time. Philip approaches them and asks John if he’s sleeping with the enemy. Nicole claims they’re having a friendly chat. Philip states that the two of them deserve each other, then walks out.
