Meanwhile, Paul asks a sulking Morgan what’s wrong. Morgan wonders how she’s supposed to eat when she’s forced to sit there and look at John. Paul tries to assure her that John promised to help him out with the “misunderstanding” with the customs office, but Morgan isn’t buying it and knows that John is responsible for putting her father into this mess in the first place. Paul claims that nobody made him do anything, but Morgan knows her daddy better than that. Morgan refers to John as a jerk who doesn’t give a damn about anyone else but himself. She worries about her father going to jail, but he tries to assure her that things will get taken care of. Morgan proceeds to leave and meet with Chelsea and hugs her dad before she leaves.
Nicole later thanks John for the pancakes and the company, remarking how it’s the best meal she’s had since she’s been back in Salem. She looks forward to getting to know the new and vastly improved John. Nicole gives him a peck on the cheek and agrees to meet him tonight at his place.
Outside the pub, Nicole confirms to Philip that she has a date tonight with John at his place. Philip warns her not to get distracted and remember her objective. Nicole assures Philip that she’ll get the goods on John and he won’t suspect a thing.
Back inside, John approaches Paul at the bar and hopes he’s not following him. Paul notes the “hot little blond” he was sitting with and asks if he’s married. John affirms that it’s none of his business and he knows what he’s doing.
Kate takes Chelsea back to the Kiriakis mansion, where Chelsea admits she’s not feeling so hot, then collapses to the floor. A panicked Kate implores her to wake up and yells at someone to call an ambulance. Daniel arrives at the right time and remarks how it was a good thing he followed his instincts and came there. He lays her down on the sofa and notes that she’s running a pretty high fever. Kate calls for an ambulance at 13201 Glen Oaks and urges them to hurry. She paces the floor and rants how Chelsea should’ve never had the operation since it was too risky. She vows to hold Daniel responsible if Chelsea doesn’t make it, stating that he never should’ve talked her into the surgery. Daniel affirms that Chelsea volunteered to donate part of her pancreas to Bo and he made sure she understood all the risks. He reminds her that he wasn’t too thrilled about doing the surgery in the first place. Kate apologizes and says she was just looking for someone to blame. She runs to the door when she hears the doorbell and leads the paramedics in, where Daniel fills them in on Chelsea’s condition.
The paramedics later note that Chelsea has a temperature of 103.4 and her pulse is rapid and weak. Morgan arrives on the scene and frantically wonders what happened to Chelsea. Chelsea later wakes up and asks Daniel to stay with her. Daniel promises to take very good care of her.
At the Vitali compound, Ava is about to tell the love story of her and Patch. Angelo proposes they off the group without stalling. Bo, Hope, and Kayla defend Steve and are eager to hear the details. Ava recalls how she and Patch were once deeply in love, or at least that’s what she believed up until their wedding day. She admits it was the happiest day of her life, referring to Patch as her soulmate. She flashes back to being at a tiny chapel in Nevada on her wedding day when Steve was standing at the altar. Back to reality, a guilty Steve turns away from a scorned Ava. Ava admits she was never so much in love with Patch as she was at that moment. Steve apologizes to Kayla for having to hear this and states that what happened in the past is over and done with, but Ava disagrees. Hope wants to hear the rest. Ava implores Steve to tell his good friends what happened next on their wedding day.
Steve agrees to tell the rest of the story. He recalls standing at the altar as we see another flashback of their wedding day. He wondered why he didn’t feel as happy as she did on their wedding day and started having crazy flashes in his head of someone else’s wedding. We see very brief flashbacks of Steve and Kayla’s 1988 wedding. He knew there was something wrong about the whole situation and knew in his heart that he couldn’t go through with it. Ava is in tears. Steve offers to stop if it’s too painful for Ava, but she implores him to go on. We see him take a few steps back in the chapel, and the next thing he knew he was out the side door and was standing there with his heart pounding. He had another flashback to his wedding with Kayla and had to go inside to tell Ava that he couldn’t go through with it. Then out of nowhere, these two guys came up behind him and dragged him off and threw him in the back of his own car. Ava is dubious. Steve insists it’s the truth and never meant to hurt her. Ava cries how she loved him and how a part of her died right then and there. Steve reveals to Ava that before they met, he was abducted and held prisoner by a man named Stefano DiMera, who wanted to inflict as much pain on him and his loved ones. “He faked my death, he made me forget my past,” continues Steve. He explains that Stefano had him locked up and under his control for years, then one day he managed to escape and didn’t know where to go or what to do. He admits that Ava changed him and gave him a life, something to live for. He confesses that he fell in love with Ava and wanted to marry her, which makes Ava cry even more.
Ava recalls how she waited at the church, then realized that he wasn’t coming back. We see a flashback of Ava running out of the church, feeling devastated that Steve had left her. She sinks to the ground and sobs. The next thing she knew, she was in an ambulance being taken to a hospital, where she stayed for quite some time. Then her daddy brought her back home and locked her in the room, telling her it was for her own good. She excoriates Steve for ruining her life and turning her into this person that she despises. “I hate you!” I hate everything that you have done to me!” she cries. Steve and Kayla are also in tears.
