Sami returns to the DiMera mansion after a day at the gym and encounters a shirtless John. She apologizes and stammers, thinking he was EJ. He asks if he’s making her uncomfortable in his “current state of undress.” “A little,” she answers. She looks away while he puts a shirt on for her, then asks if EJ was still at the gym. John wonders why she’s looking for him. Sami tells him to forget it and rushes out.
EJ arrives home and quietly asks John if Samantha’s there. John says no and wonders why he’s whispering. EJ doesn’t want her to know that he’s home. “And people think I have a bizarre marriage,” chuckles John after EJ walks out of the room. Marlena arrives home, which takes John by surprise. He walks over and asks how her vacation was. Marlena admits she got lucky with the Colorado weather and has realized that her only option is to accept him as he is. John assumes that their problems are solved and proceeds to open some champagne to celebrate. Marlena clarifies that she’ll never give up on the ‘old’ John and touches his face. He asks why she’s so afraid to get to know the new John. Marlena claims she’s not and doesn’t want to talk about it. John refers to his old persona as “just a dial tone.” Marlena says she’s exhausted from traveling and wants to take a long hot bath and relax. John approaches her in the foyer and suggests joining her, since he didn’t shower at the gym and since they should conserve water. This amuses Marlena, who believes she’ll be fine on her own. John then discovers her sexy neglige and teases her about modeling it for him. Marlena tries to grab it from him. Sami comes downstairs, while EJ emerges from the living room. Both notice the playfulness between John and Marlena. Sami welcomes her mother home with a hug. As Marlena and Sami go upstairs together, John orders Rolf to help with the bags and to work on his accent.
Rolf approaches Stefano’s portrait and admits that he’s not so sure he likes the monster which Stefano created. He retrieves the disk behind the wall which contains John’s lost memories and flashes back to Stefano holding the disk in front of John. Marlena soon enters the living room and asks Rolf what he was doing. Rolf claims the painting was a little crooked. “Like the subject,” responds Marlena. An uncomfortable Rolf chuckles and says she has a wicked sense of humor, then leaves the room.
Sami approaches Marlena and raves how fantastic everything is that she bought, then wants to discuss the neglige. “Mom, you are so busted,” smiles Sami. Marlena doesn’t want to discuss it now, but Sami warns her that John isn’t who he used to be and she doesn’t want her mom to get hurt. Marlena promises to be careful. Sami refers to all men as pigs, especially EJ. “I hate him,” she admits. Sami recounts the recent events at Chez Rouge and complains how Nicole wants EJ to represent her. Marlena isn’t surprised. Sami fumes how she begged EJ not to take the case, but he didn’t listen to her. EJ comes downstairs and overhears Sami state her refusal to allow Nicole to sink her teeth into him. Marlena suspects that she might be starting to have feelings for EJ. “The only feeling I have for EJ is anger,” declares Sami. Marlena is dubious and implies that Sami might be jealous of the time Nicole and EJ are spending together. She admits that she cares about him, since he’s Johnny’s father. Marlena implores her to be honest about her feelings. Sami wonders where this is all coming from, since she thought her mother hated EJ. Marlena admits that a part of her will always hate EJ for what he did to Sami, but she firmly believes that people can change. She explains what a big deal it was for EJ to sacrifice his own relationship with Stefano to help them find John. Thus, she’s willing to give EJ the benefit of the doubt.
EJ finally emerges and suggests that Sami should listen to her mother. Sami accuses EJ of eavesdropping, which he denies. He makes a crack about wearing a bell around his neck so she can hear him coming. Sami rants how this is what she has to put up with from him. John emerges and tells her to keep it down, since he’s trying to work. EJ assumes she’s a bit upset about Nicole and admits that Nicole’s the one should be angry. “How could you even say that to me?” questions an agitated Sami. EJ tells her that she’s lucky Nicole didn’t press assault charges. He fills Marlena in on Sami punching Nicole at the gym. An annoyed John warns them not to make another sound, then leaves the room after he hears one of the twins crying. Sami excuses herself to attend to Johnny, but Marlena follows her into the foyer and offers to take care of him. The ladies then overhear EJ on the phone with Mr. Burke, the immigration agent. Marlena tells Sami she can’t walk away from her problems, then heads upstairs.
At the Brady Pub, Morgan encounters a working Max and asks him if she can put some flyers up regarding a recycling project for the Theta house. Max obliges and agrees to put some up at the Cheatin’ Heart, then asks about her dad. A glum Morgan admits how bad she feels for her dad. Max advises her to just be there for him and let him know she loves him. Steph walks in and witnesses Max embracing Morgan. Steph walks up to them and interrupts. Max asks Morgan to give them a minute. After Morgan walks off, Steph sarcastically notes how cute Morgan looks today. Max insists that the hug was completely innocent, and Morgan’s worried about her family. Steph admits she’s worried about her parents and is starting to freak out that nobody’s heard from them. Max embraces her. Meanwhile, a mystery man sitting nearby spies on Stephanie.
Max later brings Morgan and Stephanie apple pie a la mode at the bar. Meanwhile, the mystery man phones Angelo and tells him he’s with the Johnson girl. Angelo tells him to stay on it, since they may need Stephanie for leverage. Morgan tells Max about her intern adventures and even touches his hand while Steph looks on with jealousy. Steph excuses herself, claiming she needs to check her cell phone messages for any news on her parents. The mystery man follows Steph out of the pub.
