Killing the Messenger

By Gwen Morett, About.com

At Chez Rouge, Maggie and Shawn go over a list of people who are coming to Bo and Hope’s surprise anniversary party. Shawn thanks her for her help. Chloe approaches Shawn at the bar and says hi to him, but he’s less than receptive. “You’ve got some guts to waltz in here after that stunt you pulled,” he confronts her. “I guess it’s kill the messenger time?” she assumes. She apologizes for her actions, but thought he deserved to know the truth about seeing Philip and Belle together. He blasts her for telling him in the middle of the reunion right before he received a cheesy award. She claims she didn’t know he was about to receive an award and apologizes. Shawn reveals that he spoke to Belle, who claimed she isn’t cheating with Philip. Chloe admits she jumped to the wrong conclusions and reiterates her apology. Shawn calms down and admits that he probably would’ve suspected an affair if he had been at the hotel. He says Phil has been going after Belle for months and apologizes for “killing the messenger." He admits he would want to know if Belle was having an affair and would be furious with anyone for withholding information, then proposes they forget about the whole thing. She shares the “good news” that she and Philip have a date tonight. He cautions her against this. “Friends don’t let friends date Kiriakises,” he jests. She intends to do her best to make Phil forget Belle and admits she cares for Philip. He warns her that Philip’s not the same guy she used to know.

Shawn and Chloe later have a drink together as Shawn describes Philip as someone much more ruthless and manipulative than he used to be. Chloe appreciates Shawn’s warnings, but insists she can protect herself. Shawn then questions why she and Brady got divorced. She doesn’t divulge any details except that people grow apart and change. She advises Shawn to stop worrying about her and Philip and instead worry about Philip and Belle. Shawn warns her again to be careful with Philip, then leaves.

At the pub, Belle is busy studying when a smiling Philip arrives and startles her. She tells him to go, since Shawn will be there any minute. He affirms that he didn’t want to betray her to the police and hopes she believes him. She claims it doesn’t matter and blames herself for going along with Phil’s plan. Philip says Shawn could’ve kept his mouth shut about the whole ordeal. Belle tells him to stop trying to cause problems when there aren’t any. “I’m glad that Shawn told Bo the truth,” admits Belle, who doesn’t think she deserves Shawn’s love and forgiveness.

Philip offers to help out with cleaning up, but she tells him to leave her alone. He claims he’s the only one who understands what she’s dealing with and will never judge her or hold it against her. She accuses him of telling Bo that she was in on the gun scheme. He implores her to ask Bo how his name came up, insisting that she’ll find out who spilled to Bo. Philip wonders why she told Shawn about the gun. “Because Chloe told him that she saw us in a hotel together,” replies a perturbed Belle. Philip advises her to be honest with Shawn about their romp together, since she’s making herself sick trying to keep in from him. “Are you crazy? It would be a total disaster!” predicts Belle. Philip speculates that Shawn will find out about them sooner or later from Bo, Hope, Kayla, or someone else. She asks him to leave. Philip then reveals that he ran into Chloe earlier and asked her out. Belle wonders why and offers to give him a million reasons why he shouldn’t go out with her. He implores her to give him one. “Well, she left you for my brother,” she rehashes. “And now they’re divorced and Chloe wants us to get back together,” continues Philip. Belle chuckles at this thought and predicts it will be a rebound relationship with Phil. “She’s using you,” surmises Belle. “Maybe I wanna be used,” remarks Philip before leaving.

Shawn arrives back at the pub to a distracted Belle, who asks if everything’s ready for the party. A preoccupied Shawn says he thinks so, then proceeds to head upstairs for a brief nap. Belle then reveals that Philip was there, but she didn’t ask him to come. She begs him to talk to her and tell her that he forgives her, but he can’t forget what she and Philip did. Belle claims she didn’t mean to hurt him. Shawn is appalled by how his own wife would deceive him without batting an eyelash. Belle admits she hated lying to him but only wanted him to get into the academy. Shawn accuses Belle of playing right into Philip’s hands. She swears it won’t happen again and reiterates how sorry she is. Shawn insists that they need to be honest with each other about everything if they’re going to make the marriage work. She agrees and hugs him, professing to love him. He implores her to spill if there’s anything she wants to tell him. Belle hesitates and can’t bring herself to reveal her indiscretion, so she claims she doesn’t know if she wants to have any more kids. Shawn is relieved that it’s not worse. He agrees not to have more kids if she’s not sure and assures her that nothing could change his love for her. They proceed to get ready to head back to Chez Rouge together. Before he heads upstairs to change, he thanks her for trusting him. Belle sits down and cries.

Billie is summoned over to Lucas’s and wonders where the twins are. Lucas reveals they’re across the hall with Sami, which stuns Billie since Lucas mentioned that there was an emergency with the kids. Lucas claims it’s more like a problem. Billie apologizes for having to tell Bo the truth. Lucas says it’s okay but needs a big favor in regards to Allie. “I want you to be Allie’s godmother,” he proposes. Billie is astonished by this and admits it was the last thing she expected to hear. She wonders if he’d rather have someone with experience raising a child like Maggie or Hope. Lucas insists he wants her for the job and wants his daughter to model after her. Billie rehashes how she was once a former drug user. Lucas assures her she’s not like that anymore.
