At the Salem Police Department, Roman enters Abes office and sees the grim looks on Stephanie, Chelsea, and Lexies faces. He initially assumes its about the Ford Decker situation, but Abe informs him that the pilots arent able to be reached by radio and failed to make their scheduled course adjustment. Abe surmises that the plane is way off its landing coordinates and could run out of fuel in less than an hour.
Caroline enters Abes office while Abe is on the phone with Homeland Security trying to track the plane down. Roman hugs his mother and tries to assure her that the passengers will be okay. Steph approaches Max and admits that shes glad hes there. Abe hangs up the phone and reveals that theres no change or communication. Roman wonders if they can track the plane on the Internet, but Abe says they dont have the software or clearance. Plus, the latest updates show that the altitude course and airspeed remain constant. Roman gives it to his mom straight and reveals that the plane is going to run out of fuel and theres really no safe place to land. He assures her that Bo, Steve, Shawn, Philip, and John are up there and wont sit around and do nothing.
Roman is later on the phone with Homeland Security, while Abe is on the phone with the tracking station in Greenland. He then relays to Abe how Homeland Security has no indication if the lack of communication to Johns plane is connected to terrorist threats or activities. Abe informs the gang that the tracking station in Greenland has the plane on radar, but theres no communication or deviation of course speed or altitude. Caroline questions how long until they run out of fuel. Not very long at all, Abe gravely replies. Steph suspects that its not just the radio in the plane, and that somethings definitely wrong up there. Abe wants to believe that John, Bo, and Steve will figure something out. And if they dont? asks Caroline. Abe suggests they not panic until they get all the facts. Chelsea frets how they cant get any facts since no-one will tell them anything. Roman suggests they take it easy and someone will contact them as soon as theres information. A distraught Caroline peers out the window and urges them to pray.
In the cockpit, Steve and John attempt to control the plane but are unable to alter the course of altitude. Unfortunately, they have only 30 minutes of oxygen and one hour of fuel remaining. Well if we dont get control of this boat, we will crash before we run out of fuel! shouts Steve. Look on the bright side. The crash wont kill us. Well already have suffocated, remarks a sarcastic John. Steve yells how hes sick of Johns quips and reminds him how they have family and friends in the back. Thus, they cant give up. John intends to position the plane for a landing when they get control of the aircraft.
In the cabin, its a bumpy ride as everyone is freezing and struggling to breathe the remaining oxygen. Chloe gives Philip a mask. Philip yells for Shawn to try the other mask. Belle frets how Claire is freezing and she cant keep her warm. Kayla asks Marlena how much time left they have with oxygen. Marlena reveals less than half an hour. Hope urges Grandpa Shawn to put his mask on. The stubborn but loveable old man refuses, insisting that Bo needs to live. Hope begs him not to make the kind of decision. She asks him to let her get Kayla, since she has a right to know what hes about to do. He agrees, but doesnt want anyone else to know. Hope encourages Kayla to come with her. An afflicted Hope tells Kayla that Pop wants them to let him die.
Philip yells for Chloe to stay awake and keep breathing. Belle cries and feels helpless for a cold Claire. Shawn questions whats going on with his grandpa, mom, and dad. Marlena tells him not to talk, since hes wasting oxygen. Belle and Marlena profess to love each other. Kayla and Hope refuse to let Grandpa Shawn go, but he asserts that they dont have a choice. Kayla shares the news that shes pregnant and thus the baby needs to know him. Grandpa Shawn states that the baby wont get to know anyone unless they let him go. You take that mask and you put it on your face and you take some breaths! I am not gonna let you do this! urges a frantic Kayla. I have to Kayla! insists G. Shawn. I love you all so much! And Ill be up there, watching over you, over our whole family, standing right there next to our sister. Tell Caroline, that Ill miss her most of all, he passionately professes. Kayla threatens to take that mask and put it on his face when he goes to sleep. He urges them to let him go before the devil knows hes gone. Grandpa Shawn then reaches for the tube and yanks out his oxygen mask. At that moment, more turbulence is felt.
Back in the cockpit, Steve tells John that nobody has to die, and if they work together they can do this. John says its a matter of simple mathematics, reiterating that theyre at 32,000 feet and they need to get below 10,000 feet in order to get air back in the cabin. John states the two options: they can take back control so they can descend, or dump the fuel. He invites Steve to knock himself out with the control panels. Steve is astonished to discover what appears to be some kind of small explosive, noting that the wires are all fried. John implores Steve to find the flight controls before they dump the fuel.
Hope and Kayla sob over Grandpa Shawn being gone. Hope says they cant tell the others just yet. Everyone struggles to stay alive with the remaining air. Marlena encourages Belle to conserve air and pray. A distraught Hope insists to Kayla that Bo has to live, since Grandpa Shawn sacrificed himself for him.
