I Don't Make Deals With the Devil

By , About.com Guide

At the Kiriakis mansion Philip asks Henderson if he’s seen his keys, but Henderson hasn’t. Henderson answers the door to E.J., who has come to speak to Victor. A surly Victor tells him to make it quick, since Kate’s surgery is this morning and he needs to be there. E.J. brings up his divorce offer, but Victor doesn’t have time for it. He doesn’t feel as though the hospital was the most appropriate place to have the conversation, but he asserts that it’s his responsibility to resolve the situation as quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Philip leaves to go see Kate while Victor tells E.J. to make it quick. E.J. proposes they settle out of court. “I don’t make deals with the devil,” declares Victor. E.J. brings up allegations of fraud, recalling how Victor allowed Nicole to take the heat when he let everyone believe he was dead. He then brings up how the key witness for the alleged murder, Jan Spears, has been in a coma for the last three years. “If you think you can blackmail me into settling, you’re dead wrong!” asserts Victor. E.J. suggests they start poking into Victor’s history of ex-wives, such as Carly Manning, Vivian Alamain, and of course Kate. “You talk a good game, but you’re still a little wet behind the ears,” notes Victor. E.J. warns Victor not to underestimate him. He threatens to have full financial disclosure of all of Victor’s assets splashed across the front page of The Intruder. “Empty threats,” responds Victor.

Nicole emerges and asks if Victor took the deal. “Hell no!” replies Victor, as he tears the offer to shreds. Nicole insists that the sooner they settle, the sooner she’ll be out of his hair. Victor still refuses, speculating that she could buy a small country for the amount she’s asking for. E.J. believes it’s more than fair. “She tried to kill me! She doesn’t deserve a red cent” rehashes Victor. Nicole then calls for Henderson, who responds by calling her “Mrs. Kiriakis.” “Didn’t I ask you not to call her that?” barks Victor. Henderson apologizes. Nicole recites a list of things she needs for a party, such as tents, food, and an ice sculpture in the likeness of Pookie. Victor finally agrees to settle for half of what Nicole’s asking. Nicole agrees to take it. E.J. takes her aside and reminds her that he’s ‘this close’ to getting her twice the amount Victor’s offering. Nicole expresses how she just wants the whole thing to be over and wants her freedom. She assures him that he'll still get a nice commission. E.J. tries to turn down Victor’s offer, but Nicole interrupts and declares that she accepts. E.J. offers to draw up the paperwork. Victor is suspicious that she has an ulterior motive.

In Kate’s hospital room, Chelsea is by her grandma’s side as Daniel explains that the surgery is a very simple procedure and she should be out of there in a couple of days. He proceeds to give her something to help her relax, but she refuses to allow him to do the surgery. Chelsea wonders why she would want someone else to do it. Kate’s patience grows thin and she yells that she simply wants another doctor. Daniel requests to speak to Kate alone. Chelsea kisses Kate on the cheek and leaves the room. Daniel implores her to tell him what the hell she’s doing. Kate reiterates that she wants another surgeon and wonders why it’s so hard for him to accept. Daniel relents, but warns her that she’ll have to be the one to explain it to Chelsea. He comes outside the door, where Chelsea wonders why Kate’s being so stubborn. Philip arrives and asks about Kate. Daniel and Chelsea inform him that Kate’s refusing Daniel as her surgeon. Philip proceeds to talk some sense into his mom.

Back in Kate’s room, she tells Philip that she’d be more comfortable with another doctor. The nurse gives her the name of another surgeon, who comes highly recommended by Dr. Jonas. She asks Chelsea and Philip to leave so she can finish prepping Kate for surgery. Chelsea and Philip give her hugs and “I love yous.”

Abe and Roman are on the pier, where Roman suggests that his partner could use a little time off. Abe moans how it’s the last thing he wants, as work is the only thing that’s keeping him sane. He changes the subject and mentions how he heard that Marlena was moving out of the mansion. Chloe arrives on the pier and eavesdrops on their conversation about Sami, Lucas, and Marlena. Roman speculates that even if Lucas could get out of the mansion, he doesn’t think Lucas would be that stupid since he already has two strikes against him. Eric then phones Roman and apparently is on crutches and has been released from the hospital. Abe heads for the warehouse.

Lucas reads the newspaper at the DiMera mansion as Sami emerges after working up a sweat outside. She mentions how hot it is and how it’s a good day for the lake. Lucas quips how his day is all booked up getting to watch Weekend at Bernie’s. Sami innocently suggests that maybe there’s a way they can get the ankle monitor off of him so he can get out. “I already told you for the millionth time that I never took off my ankle monitor,” he lies. Sami believes otherwise. Lucas declares that living under the same roof isn’t working, since all they do is argue. He implores Sami to move out and go live with Marlena, but Sami says no way. “Fine. Then E.J. should go,” suggests Lucas. Lucas then answers the doorbell to Chloe, who apologizes for not calling first. Chloe requests to speak to Lucas alone. Lucas follows Sami out into the foyer to make sure she doesn’t stand and eavesdrop. Sami claims she can’t find her sunglasses. “They’re uh, on your head,” states Lucas before he closes the doors. Lucas pounds on the door and demands for Sami to give them some privacy.

Lucas comes downstairs after settling Allie down. Chloe remarks that he seems like a good father, then confronts him about being on the pier last night. Lucas continues to lie, but she implores him to admit that he snuck out. Lucas reiterates that he wasn’t there, but Chloe is convinced that he saw her crying. Lucas blabs how it was a total coincidence that she was at the pier. “Gotcha!” interjects Chloe.
