He is reluctant to open up to her, since shes still mourning Shawn and worried about Bo. She encourages him to talk to her. They sit down, where Victor confesses that he hasnt been sleeping well, hes been snapping at Philip and the staff, and hasnt been able to stop thinking about Isabella and how she died. He admits how much he misses his daughter and cant bear losing his son the same way.

Nick insists that he really wants the research grant, which could make a big difference to a lot of people and could boost his career. Max wonders what his point is. My point is that I could really use the support of my friends right now, especially from the person that I thought was my best friend, replies Nick. Max claims that Nick has his support, but Nick is skeptical. He confronts Max about the page he ripped from his notebook, and asks why he did it. Max claims that he needed to write a phone number down from one of the vendors at the pub. He doesnt understand what the big deal is, since the notebook paper was only a couple of scribbles. A peeved Nick states that the scribbles were part of the main formula for the first series of his experiment. Max hands it back to him. A suspicious Nick questions why hes so interested in it. Max affirms that hes Nicks friend, and knows how important this grant is to him. He wishes Nick luck with his calculations before he heads back to work.

The man advises him to check and recheck everything, then leaves. Meanwhile, Max watches from afar and grins. A frustrated Nick later phones Max, who is hiding in the background. He demands to know why Max tore a page out of his notebook. Max reiterates that he just tore out a page that it was open. Nick then hangs up and wonders if its just a coincidence.

At the DiMera mansion, Marlena pays John a visit and advises him to start locking the front door. More important things to do, responds John as he goes through Stefanos paperwork. She wishes he didnt care about Stefanos paperwork. When the doorbell rings, he asks her to get it for her. A puzzled Marlena reluctantly obliges and opens the door to Rolf. Good morning Mr. Black, says Rolf, which surprises Marlena. She asks whats going on, insisting that Rolf needs to be in prison. John reveals that Rolf was, but decided not to press charges against the mad scientist. Without Johns testimony, the D.A. didnt have a case so Rolf is now a free man. And I will be eternally grateful, declares Rolf. Marlena demands to know how Rolf convinced people that John was dead and is outraged that Rolf is free. If you value my opinion, why do you keep ignoring my advice? questions Marlena. Valuing your opinion should not be confused with having you tell me what to do, counters John. Marlena warns John that having Rolf anywhere near him puts him in jeopardy. Rolf says he wont hurt John, especially after the kindness which John has shown him. You are such a liar! exclaims Marlena. She invites John to a family dinner with Shawn, Belle, and Claire. John claims that hes got a lot on his plate, but will let her know. A dejected Marlena walks out.
John asks Rolf what he thinks of Marlena inviting him to a family dinner. She loves you, surmises Rolf. I wonder if she can cook, says John. This elicits a chuckle from Rolf, whos heard from various people like John that she cant. John presses Rolf to share more details. Rolf shares how closely he worked with John while he recovered from the terrible hit and run and reveals that John mumbled things while he was unconscious. Including observations that Blondie cant cook, assumes John. Rolf claims it was jumbled and incoherent. John questions what he would wear if he attended the family shindig. Well how should I know? Im a scientist, not a butler, replies Rolf. Wrong. I saved your butt, Rolf. You got no job. You got nowhere to go, no-one to trust, refutes John. He decides to hire Rolf as his butler under one condition: lose the accent.
