Daniel and Chelsea are getting hot and heavy in the hospital locker room when Chelsea pushes him away. Daniel slams the locker and says it’s so wrong. “Right. Very right,” responds a breathless Chelsea, who kisses him. They continue to get passionate against the lockers when they hear a female voice outside the locker room. Daniel quickly shoves Chelsea, who is dressed in her bra, into a locker. An attractive young doctor enters and notes that she caught Daniel at a good time. She introduces herself as Amber Kress, a second year resident. She is obviously impressed with the looks of Daniel and brings up the topic of conservation and green technology. He mentions bringing environmentally friendly changes to the hospital. “Like the hospital you did in Sweden?” questions Amber, who reveals that she did some research on him. She smiles flirtatiously and admits she likes what she found on him. She sits next to him and implies that it’s too bad he already showered, as they could’ve saved water showering together. She mentions how Dr. Carver offered him a staff position. “No secrets here, huh?” blushes Daniel. He stutters how he needs to get some clothes on. She takes his hand and wonders if he’s at least considering the offer. Daniel says it would help if there was an ocean nearby. Amber claims she’s a surfer as well and suggests they make a weekend out of surfing together sometime. Amber is then paged and needs to go, but wants to find a time when they can hook up. Daniel stutters how he needs to be honest with her. Amber deduces that he’s seeing someone, which Daniel confirms. Amber writes her phone number down and hands it to Daniel, telling him to call if things don’t work out. After she leaves the locker room, Daniel lets Chelsea out. “So you’re seeing somebody, huh?” smiles Chelsea, who wonders if he’s talking about her.
Chelsea puts her shirt back on and deduces that she’s the reason he stayed in Salem. “Why is it so hard for you to admit that I mean something to you?” she asks. Daniel claims the two of them can’t ever happen. Chelsea doesn’t believe that, making note of the way he kissed and touched her. Daniel marvels how beautiful she is and how she has a vitality, but he can’t allow them to fall into something which is so wrong for her. Chelsea believes they can make it work and coaxes him to give them a chance. Daniel insists he can’t do it. Chelsea wonders why he hasn’t left town already and doesn’t believe the lame excuses that he’s consulting on other cases. She surmises that he wants her. Daniel doesn’t exactly deny this and affirms that he can’t give her a commitment. Chelsea agrees to go for now, but vows that they’re not over.
Abe and Lexie are at home spending time with Theo, as it’s obvious there’s tension between the Carvers. Lexie is trying to get him to say “block,” but Abe tells her not to push. Abe predicts that when Theo’s ready to talk, he will. Lexie is on the phone, then gives Abe the scoop that Kayla’s baby still isn’t stabilized. He asks if she thinks the baby’s going to make it, but Lexie doesn’t know and feels horrible for Steve and Kayla. Lexie rehashes what they went through trying to get pregnant with Theo. Abe reminisces how excited and happy they were upon finding out they were going to have a baby. We see a brief flashback of the Carver’s rejoicing in the news. Lexie admits she’s worried about Theo, since he hardly speaks, but he’s so sweet and loving. Abe believes they hover a bit too much, and they should just enjoy being a family. Theo throws the blocks on the floor, which prompts Lexie to put him to bed. Theo hugs his daddy goodnight before Lexie takes him to brush his teeth.
Lexie comes back downstairs after putting Theo to bed. Abe gives her a glass of wine. Lexie notes that it’s been a long time since they sat together. Abe marvels how Theo’s growing up so fast. Lexie complains how her back is killing her, so Abe offers to give her a massage. He rubs her back and kisses her neck, which makes Lexie smile. She kisses him before Abe coaxes her to go upstairs. Unfortunately, they are interrupted by a phone call for Lexie. After she hangs up, Abe comes downstairs and says Theo woke up while she was on the phone, but he got him back to sleep. He suspects that Theo’s picking up on attention, as the two of them don’t agree on anything. “Maybe that’s why we need a marriage counselor,” suggests Lexie, who insists that she wants things to work between them and doesn’t want to lose him. He says he doesn’t want to lose her either and embraces her.
Nick enters the pub and encounters Max. They discuss the situation with Steph, Chelsea, Steve, Kayla, and the baby. Nick surmises that it’s been hard for Chelsea, since she can’t have kids. Max questions if he thinks that’s the reason Chelsea broke up with him. Nick shares his suspicion that Chelsea’s into Dr. Jonas. Max recalls Steph teasing Chelsea about it, but he didn’t think anything of it. Nick relays how Morgan told him how hot the doctor was. “Morgan’s into this guy too?” interjects Max. Nick believes that Morgan was simply “objectively appreciating his attributes.” Max notes that Nick’s way too calm about this and wonders if he’s even angry at Daniel for going after Chelsea. Nick suspects that things just happened between Daniel and Chelsea. Max embraces a glum Steph when she enters the pub. Steph cries that her little brother is still in the neonatal ICU and the doctors won’t let anyone see him. Max offers to have the kitchen make up some food for Steph and her parents.
After Max heads into the kitchen, Nick approaches Steph and asks how her little brother is doing. “I don’t know. No-one will tell us anything,” she shrugs. “No news is good news, right?” assumes Nick. Steph hopes it’s true. Nick tries to assure her that University Hospital has one of the best ICU’s in the country, and her brother’s in good hands. He gives her the stats on how many premature babies are born and sent home, trying to assure her that her brother definitely has a shot at making it.
