Friends With Benefits

By , About.com Guide

Kayla holds her baby in her room, marveling how perfect he is when Ava walks in and takes him from her. “Give me my baby back!” shouts Kayla. It was just a dream, as she wakes up to find Ava walking in her room holding a bouquet of flowers. A remorseful Ava admits she did awful things, but insists that she’s a different Ava now. She tries to assure Kayla that she doesn’t have to be afraid of her anymore, as her head is clear from the drugs. Kayla doubts that Steve would be so thrilled that she’s there. Ava says that’s why she waited to come until visiting hours were over, revealing that Steve’s down by neonatal ICU worried about her little boy. “I can’t help but think that what I did to you is the reason that all of this happened,” demurs a contrite Ava. Kayla states that premature labor isn’t exactly rare, but they may never know what brought it on. Ava can’t help but feel responsible, though, feeling sorry that she caused Kayla stress. Kayla reminds Ava that she was under the influence of some powerful drugs. Ava laments not being strong enough to fight the effects of the pills. She praises Kayla for helping her get her life back and wishes there was some way she could repay the favor. Kayla appreciates how Ava wants to make up for what she did and remarks how nice it was for Ava to come visit. She apologizes for Ava losing her father. Ava rehashes how her father did a lot of awful things. Kayla predicts that Ava will inherit a large amount of money, but Ava doesn’t care about it. She suggests that Ava can take her father’s money and do some good.

Ava encourages Kayla to try and get some rest. Kayla just wants to see her baby and hold him, but at least she’ll get to see him tomorrow. “Tomorrow? To hell with that. Why don’t you just sneak out of here and go take a look?” suggests Ava. Kayla admits she’d love to, but she’d never make it past the nurse’s station. A genuinely sincere Ava tells Kayla to take care of herself, and she’ll say a prayer for her little boy.

Ava later returns to Kayla’s room dressed in scrubs. She reveals that she snuck into neonatal ICU because she wanted Kayla to see her little boy. She displays the picture of Joe on her camera phone to Kayla, who is overwhelmed at the sight of her beautiful boy.

At the DiMera mansion, Lucas questions how long things have been going on between her and EJ. “Tonight was the first time. It was the only time,” insists Sami. Lucas isn’t buying it and wants to know why she would sleep with EJ. Sami cries how Lucas wouldn’t talk to her or call her, and the only way he would communicate with her is through the recent email telling her to move on with her life. She admits how heartbroken and destroyed she was by the email. “So much so that you had to console yourself by sleeping with EJ?” assumes Lucas. He insists that he doesn’t blame her for needing someone, since he left her with two little babies to take care of. He can’t understand how she could move on with EJ. Sami points out that EJ forgave Lucas for shooting him. Lucas blames EJ for turning their lives upside down and is incredulous that Sami could sleep with him. Sami attests that EJ has taken responsibility for everything he did and implores Lucas to do the same. She demands to know why he ignored her in prison. Lucas yells that he did it for her and didn’t know he was going to get out of jail. Sami asserts that she would’ve waited for him forever. “Why didn’t you just tell me you were coming home?” asks a distressed Sami. “Because I wanted to surprise you,” he replies. Sami apologizes and continues to insist that it was the first time with EJ. EJ interrupts and backs up Sami. “Another word out of your mouth and this time it’s not gonna be attempted murder,” threatens Lucas. Sami gently tells EJ to go. EJ acquiesces.

Sami professes to love Lucas, but he refuses to believe another lying word that comes out of her mouth. “Who are you? And why are you addressing her with such disrespect?” asks John as he returns home. Sami implores John to stay out of it. Marlena enters and is surprised to see Lucas, then embraces him. John rehashes how the ankle monitor thing works, since he’s been there himself. Lucas relays how John agreed to take responsibility for him, according to Mickey. Sami asks John why he didn’t tell her. John smiles how it was meant to be a surprise, but isn’t so sure he did the right thing. Lucas grumbles how EJ lives there as well. Marlena tries to assure Lucas that there’s nothing to worry about with EJ. John warns Lucas to speak civil to Sami, or it’s right back to the penitentiary. Sami affirms that it’s a private matter between Lucas and her. Lucas spills that he caught her in bed with EJ. Marlena urges her to say that it’s not true. A guilty Sami insists that tonight was the first time and she didn’t know that Lucas was coming home. Marlena insists that Sami is telling the truth and she’s willing to vouge for Sami. Lucas wants to know why they are still married. Marlena says there’s an explanation for that. “I know what the explanation is, Marlena. She’s a lying, cheating whore,” accuses Lucas. “Nobody speaks like that to my stepdaughter,” admonishes John. Lucas affirms that Sami’s his wife. John counters that Sami was his wife, and she’s married to someone else now. Marlena understands that Lucas is upset, but affirms that he may not speak to Sami like that. She implores him to allow Sami the opportunity to explain what happened.

Sami attests that EJ has been there helping with the twins, including rocking them to sleep, putting them to bed, even agreeing to move into the “nuthouse” with John. “So for all that you just decided to sleep with him?” assumes a bitter Lucas. Sami insists she was lonely, vulnerable, and definitely upset about reading that email. Marlena suggests they give Sami and Lucas some privacy, but Sami wants them to hear everything. A distressed Sami informs John and Marlena of the email Lucas sent. Lucas chastises her for sleeping with his mortal enemy.
