It was announced on Monday, February 4, that NBC programming executive Bruce Evans was promoted to Senior Vice President, Current Series, NBC Entertainment. The announcement was made by Erin Gough Wehrenberg, Executive Vice President, Current Series, NBC Entertainment. Bruce will be reporting to Gough Wehrenberg in his new position.
Gough Wehrenberg describes Mr. Evans as "an incredibly vital executive whose extensive experience on some of our most important cornerstone series make this promotion most deserving." As a result of his experience, "his duties will be expanded to allow his contributions and impact to be maximized on a larger platform," explains Gough Wehrenberg.
In this new position, Mr. Evans will handle many of NBC's current series and will take on new reponsibilities as head of Daytime programming that is now included under Current Series. Additionally, he will serve as a liason for Paula Madison, Executive Vice President, Diversity, NBC Universal & Company Officer, General Electric, and her staff as they look to increase diversity in front of as well as behind the camera on NBC's shows.
What does this mean for DAYS? With NBC just a month away in deciding whether or not to renew it's contract with the show, this could be the ticket to instilling new life in the show. On the other hand, he could decide to end daytime drama on NBC altogether. I for one feel hopeful that this means DAYS will continue past 2009.
Mr. Evans previously served as Vice President, Current Series, since July of 2000. Among the shows he has overseen include Heroes, Law and Order, Medium, Crossing Jordan, and Just Shoot Me. He served as a Director of Prime Time Series since July of 1998 and a manager of Prime Time Series since August 1997. In August of 1996, he began his program executive career at NBC as an Entertainment Associate after his job as a coordinator in the same department.
