Bo later enters and berates Shawn for not taking his fight outside. “What can I say? I lost it,” grumbles Shawn as he cleans up the mess. Shawn mentions how Philip said he was going after Belle. Bo refers to Philip as crazy and reveals that he spoke to Commander Flynn, who mentioned that someone sent him a letter questioning Shawn’s worth as an applicant. Shawn is convinced it was Philip. Bo claims that Philip’s just baiting him and the end result always comes up the same, with Philip being the victim and Shawn as the bad guy. Bo advises Shawn to trust the woman he loves and let Philip spin his wheels.
Upstairs in Belle’s room, Hope reiterates her question to Belle as to what happened between her and Philip. Belle claims Philip drove her home since her car wouldn’t start. Hope stands back and takes a look at the evidence. “You’re in a robe, you were crying, the sheets have been ripped off the bed and there’s a broken vase by the night stand,” she notes. Belle lies that she broke the vase doing laundry. Hope refuses to believe any of Belle’s excuuses and confronts her about having sex in the room with Philip. She reveals that Shawn’s downstairs and wonders if Belle’s actually trying to get caught. A panicked Belle claims she doesn’t have time for this and needs to get the place cleaned up. Hope proceeds to go downstairs and talk to Shawn, but Belle insists she can’t. “I want the truth, and I want it now. And I want it out of your mouth,” demands Hope. “I’m sorry. I don’t know how it happened,” quivers Belle, who begs Hope not to hate her and says she and Phil aren’t having an affair. Belle cries how vulnerable she was and Hope warns her not to use John’s death as an excuse. She chastises Belle for looking for every excuse to be with Philip ever since they arrived home from Tinda Lau, bring up the Tulsa trip. Belle claims she was strictly helping Philip find his son. “What you want is exactly what you got Belle. And you and I both know that,” affirms Hope. Belle cries how she never meant to hurt Shawn and refers to it as one crazy stupid moment that she wishes she could take back. She professes that she’s been in love with Shawn since high school. “And yet you destroy everything by jumping into bed with Philip?” shrugs a bewildered Hope. Hope refuses to allow Belle to use his death as an excuse for her actions. Belle admits she did a horrible thing but swears it will never happen again. She cries how she’s never stopped feeling guilty about how abruptly her marriage ended to Philip. “Maybe it’s Philip you never got over,” surmises Hope. Belle whines and cries how Shawn’s her life and can’t take losing him. Hope reluctantly agrees to keep her secret under one condition. “You cut Philip out of your life. Completely,” demands Hope. Belle agrees to and expresses how she appreciates Hope agreeing to keep mum. “I’m not doing this for you, Belle. I’m doing it for my son,” affirms Hope, who threatens to tell all to Shawn if she suspects Belle’s cheating again.
Hope later takes Ciara out of the playpen as Shawn and Bo knock at the door. She sees Shawn’s cut by his eye and asks what happened to him. Shawn blows it off as nothing more than things getting out of hand between him and Philip. Belle questions what they fought about. Hope worries about his cut, but Bo proposes they leave. Belle sits him down on the bed and wonders what’s up with the sheets. She claims she got bored with them and fetches something for his eye.
Belle later cleans his cut and declares that Philip won’t be around, referring to Philip as her past and Shawn as her future. Belle claims he needs his own family and life so he can leave them alone. Shawn admits that’s the best news he’s heard since she agreed to marry him, especially after what Philip said to him downstairs. Belle wonders what Phil mentioned, but Shawn claims it doesn’t matter. “What does matter is that I love you and you love me,” he adds.
EJ later observes the twins in the hospital nursery and raves to the nurse how full of promise they are. He vows to be a good father if one of the babies turn out to be his.
Bo and Hope later visit Lucas and Sami. Sami fills them in on EJ’s previous claim and how they’re running another DNA test. Sami admits she’s glad they’re getting another one just to be sure. She then asks Bo if he found anything out about the guy who hit John. Bo tries to dismiss the subject, but then reveals that they found a guy who was Andre DiMera’s cell mate in prison. Sami is convinced that killing John was a warning to her. Lucas leaves to check on the twins and is followed by Bo. Hope tells Sami that she doesn’t need to marry EJ, but Sami believes otherwise. “I would rather spend eternity making EJ miserable than to go to one more funeral,” she admits.
Outside the room, Bo tries to assure Lucas that Sami and EJ’s marriage isn’t a done deal. Lucas vows to stop EJ from breaking up his family. Bo wonders what he means by this. “I’m saying if he turns up dead, you know who to go after,” implies Lucas.
