After watching last Friday's show (08/03), I'm a bit disturbed by the way Bart's death was played out. Although his stabbing was accidental, it was as though Stefano was the only person in the room who showed any concern for Bart. We all know whose side Bart was on in the Brady/DiMera vendetta, but it was hard not to like Bart at times with his funny one-liners. It's as if the show has something against comedic talent, since they were in such a hurry to get rid of <a href="http://gi309.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ/Ya&sdn=gi309&cdn=prep&tm=7&gps=97_173_979_663&f=00&tt=14&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19832301/">Steve Blackwood</a>. And how could we forget Matthew Ashford (Jack), whom TPTB also fired last year? I guess we'll have to depend on Steve to be the main comic of the show and make us all laugh amidst the teenybopper airline story and the DiMera drama.
Of course Tony revealed to the gang at the Brady Pub that not only was Bart stabbed by Andre, but he swallowed the legendary key that holds the answer to ending the DiMera/Brady vendetta. As much as I love Hope, I was a bit repulsed when she said, "Just cut him open," as though it was the simplest thing in the world to dissect Bart without so much as an "Oh my God" reaction to his death. It's not that I expect anyone to care that he died. After all, he was on the DiMera side and made an attempt on Sami's life, among other crimes. It's as though Bart received a grisly sendoff for all his loyalty to the DiMeras and for the much needed comedy he provided to this show. It would've been interesting to see Bart and Kate hook up, for example, since Bart has never had a viable love interest on the show. Why couldn't the bigwigs at DAYS get rid of another character we cared less about, such as one of the "Touch the Sky" newbies?
At least we got to see a softer side of Stefano amidst this feud, as he was obviously deeply devastated by the death of his loyal henchman. Although we all know by now that nobody really "dies" on this show. Perhaps with the production changes taking place, the DAYS honchos can find a way to bring him back.
